In order to meet the goal of high-strength and high-energy,single-base propellants(M6)were modified by adding RDX and energetic plasticizers on the traditional formula.When the content of RDX is 10%,modified single-base Propellant samples had been prepared with different RDX particle sizes(0.5?m?3.7?m?7.6?m?100?m),different kinds of energetic plasticizers(NG?DEGDN?TEGDN?Azide plasticizer),different NG contents(0%?2%?4%?6%).And the combustion properties of the modified single-propellants were analyzed by closed-bomb tests.The effects of RDX particle sizes,kinds of energetic plasticizers,contents of NG on the mechanical properties of the samples were investigated by means of tensile experiment,compression experiment and impact experiment.And the best formulation of modified single-base propellant was obtained.The study of samples with different RDX particle sizes shows that:when the RDX content is 10%,the burning rate of the propellants increases with increasing particle sizes of RDX.The combustion of modified single-base propellants with 0.5?m?3.7?m and 7.6?m RDX is stable.When the particle size of RDX is 100?m,the u-p curve of modified single-base propellant appears a turning point at about 60MPa and 150MPa and the propellant combustion is less stable.The RDX particle size has a significant effect on the mechanical properties of the propellants.The addition of RDX with the content of 10%will reduce the mechanical properties of the single base Propellant.The tensile strength?comprehensive strength and impact strength of the samples decrease with increasing particle size of RDX.The study of samples with different kinds of energetic plasticizers shows that:Compared to the modified single-base propellants with DNT,the burning rate of the sample with energetic plasticizers(NG?DEGDN?TEGDN?Azide plasticizer)is higher,the pressure index is lower.With NG,TEGDN,DEGDN and Azide plasticizer as energetic plasticizers,the mechanical properties of the modified single-base propellants,especially the impact strength at low temperature,are obviously improved.The study of samples with different content of NG shows that:The combustion of the samples with different content of NG all is stable.With increasing of the content of NG,the burning rate of the samples increases and the pressure index decreases.When the NG content is 6%,the pressure index of the sample is lower than 1.The tensile strength and impact strength of the samples increase with increasing content of NG within certain range.An optimum formulation of modified single-base propellant is as follows:NC(12.6%N)81%,NG 6%,DNT 3%,RDX(7.6 ?m)10%.The propellants prepared by this formula has a higher propellant force(1081.44 kJ·kg-1),better mechanical properties.The impact strength at low temperature is 10.40 kJ · m-2.
