Abstract/Summary:
Since the 20 th century, global warming has gradually become one of the hot spots in society, and has been mentioned several times at international conferences.Although scholars have been focusing on energy consumption and environmental pollution brought by the rapid development of industrialization, the growth of carbon emissions caused by residential activities has long been neglected.Since reform and opening up,Chinese government has made remarkable achievements, but the problems of energy consumption and the growth of carbon emissions have become more serious.China is faced with enormous pressure to reduce carbon emissions. With the development of economy and society, the environmental problems caused by residents gradually appear. Therefore, research on the energy consumption and carbon emissions of Chinese residents is very urgent.Eastern coastal areas have experienced rapid economic development, and own high-technology industry and the highest consumption expenditure. Thus, taking the areas for example to conduct related analysis, has important guiding significance for reducing carbon emissions at the national level. This paper estimates carbon emissions of residential energy consumption in China during the period 1997 to 2015,constructs logarithmic mean divisia index decomposition model to analyze the influence factors, and exploits Tapio decoupling model to investigate the decoupling state of residential carbon emissions and consumption expenditure.Meanwhile, this paper takes the eastern coastal areas as an example to discuss the above related content. The results show that the residential energy consumption and carbon emissions in China and the eastern coastal areas are on the upward trend during 1997-2015.Consumption activity effect is the most important driving factor.Energy structure effect and population scale effect also promote carbon emissions.Energy intensity effect and urban-rural consumption ratio effect inhibit the growth of the carbon emissions. The results of the Tapio decoupling show that the decoupling state between residential carbon emissions and consumption expenditure of China and eastern coastal areas are expansive coupling and week decoupling, respectively. Thus, how to effectively control residential energy consumption and carbon emissions,on the premise of ensuring healthy economy and residential consumption expenditure,is a very significant issue.
