Polyester fiber has been widely used in various fields of human life due to its advantages in flexible performance and low price.The internal storage core of mark pen is usually made by polyester fibers.Filtrona as a foreign mark pen manufactor has already started many studies on the fiber for mark pen water storage core and built a complete system for fiber preparation,water storage core manufacturing technology and evaluation.However,there are only few studies on the use of polyester fibers for water storage cores of mark pen in China.The quality of the manufactured fiber storage cores in domestic market is bad and the grades are low.So it is necessary to study the effects of fiber composition and structure on the performance of marker pen water retention cores and to improve the quality of water storage cores of mark pen.Polyester fibers with different denier,cross-section profile and surface property were designed and prepared in this thesis.The influence of processing technology on the structure and properties of polyester fibers was studied.Polyester fibers were used as the main components to prepare water storage core and the influences of size,fineness,cross section and surface properties of the fiber on the pore size and distribution,ink absorption,ink output,writing trace uniformity,ink residual rate were explored.(1)Preparation and properties of water-retaining-core polyester fibers for mark pens were studied.Polyester fibers with different deniers and cross-sections were prepared by melt-spinning.Crimp shrinkage testers,DSC,FT-IR,scanning electron microscope,the contact angle measuring instrument and other test methods were used to characterize the fiber structure,surface composition and surface properties.Studies showed that the curl shrinkage of fiber with circular cross-section decreases with the increasing fineness,and the curl shrinkage of profiled fibers is slightly higher than that of circular fibers with the same denier.The cross-section profile of circular polyester fibers will deform into irregular profile due to post-processing and other processes.Triangles and cross-shaped fibers have distinct edges and grooves.The contact angle between fiber suface and water was reduced by the fiber oil which improves the hydrophilic properties of the fiber surface.(2)Preparation and performance of water storage core were studied.polyester fiber water core with different fiber mass content,denier and cross section was prepared by using the film packaging process and hydrophilic treatment.Void distribution tester,contact angle tester,E-day equality test are used for characterizing the structure and performance of fiber water core.Research shows that the density of polyester fiber water storage core increases from 0.115g/cm~3 to0.241g/cm~3,the most probable pore size decreases from 96.7mm to 68.93mm,the number of internal capillary pores increases,the capillary attraction increases and the ink absorption increases.Vertical ink-absorption time was reduced from 223.64s to 79.73s.At a density of0.223g/cm~3,the vertical ink absorption capacity and saturated ink absorption capacity per unit volume reached a maximum of 0.725 g/cm~3 and 0.746 g/cm~3 respectively.The smaller the overall pore size of the water storage core,the greater the internal capillary attraction and the higher the ink absorption.The fiber denier dropped from 3.46dtex to 1.74dtex accomplid the vertical ink absorption per unit volume increased from 0.631 g/cm~3 to 0.736 g/cm~3.Profiled polyester fiber water storage core has more capillary voids,smaller pore size and better ink absorption than circles.The cross-shaped fiber water storage core has the best ink absorption performance,vertical ink absorption per unit volume,and saturated ink absorption amount were 85.21s,0.689 g/cm~3,and 0.747 g/cm~3 respectively.The hydrophilic treatment of the polyester fiber storage core can significantly increased the ink absorption performance and the LT-X06 finishes.The water storage core unit volume vertical ink absorption and unit volume saturation suction were 8.4%and 10%higher than the pure polyester fibers after treatment.(3)Study on the performance of the polyester fiber water core after matching the writing tip was studied.The polyester fiber nib with the ink absorption speed of 14 s and the polyester fiber storage core with ink absorption rate of 51%were matched and assembled.Writing and marking machines and E-day equality test methods were used to characterize the properties of matched polyester fiber water storage cores.Studies have shown that polyester fiber core density with too small and too large will all lead to fast writing,less ink,bad writing in the density of 0.169 g/cm~3to 0.205 g/cm~3.The stitches are relatively uniform,and the writing traces are long.When the density is less than 0.205 g/cm~3,the ink residual rate increases slowly.The rapid writing stitches begin to become more and more uneven as the fiber denier decreases,which proves that decreasing the fiber denier to improve the fast and slow ink discharge rate of the water storage core is not feasible.in the polyester fiber water storage core prepared from different fiber cross-sections,the slow and fast ink output of the triangular fiber water storage core is closer.The writing traces are the most even and the ink residue is small.After the hydrophilic treatment of the polyester fiber water storage core,the uniformity of writing traces at a faster speed is better than that of a non-treated polyester fiber storage core.
