Under the background of rapid urbanization rate, the intensity of resource consumption is increasing, and the research topic of how to achieve regional sustainable development has received more and more attention.Ecological footprint is one of the effective evaluation methods for the carrying capacity of resources and environment. The improved 3D ecological footprint model explores the stock capital and flow capital separately. This paper selects the improved three-dimensional ecological footprint model to analyze the changes of resource and environmental carrying capacity of the Yangtze River Economic Belt in 2000-2016,and explores its influencing factors. The main progress of this paper is as follows:(1)The per capita footprint size of each province in Yangtze River Economic Belt during 2000-2016 is presented in the western provinces > the central provinces > the eastern provinces.Cultivated land bears the highest proportion of footprint size.Construction land and forest land occupy the second most important position of the footprint size.Grassland and waters contribute less to the footprint size.(2)The footprint depth of the provinces in the Yangtze River Economic Belt has exceeded the original length and is characterized by unsustainable development. The footprint depth varies greatly among different provinces and cities, but the overall distribution shows eastern provinces and cities > central provinces and cities > western provinces and cities. However, the overall performance of each province and city is unsustainable, there are still surpluses in construction land and forest land in some provinces.(3)The change of the three-dimensional ecological footprint of 10,000 yuan of GDP is divided into two phases: 2000-2010 is the rapid decline phase, and 2010-2016 is the slowdown phase. The decline in the value of this indicator means that the efficiency of resource utilization has increased, and the development model has gradually changed from extensive to intensive development.(4)According to the results of the sustainable use of natural capital, the resources and environmental carrying capacity of the Yangtze River Economic Belt are divided into four categories: the first category(Shanghai),the ecological sustainable development capacity is the smallest in the Yangtze River Economic Belt..The second category(Jiangsu Province,Zhejiang Province)has relatively small ecological sustainability. The third category(Anhui,Jiangxi,Hubei,Hunan,Chongqing,Sichuan)has strong sustainable development. The fourth category(Guizhou Province,Yunnan Province)has the largest ecological sustainable development capacity in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.(5)The driving factors of the footprint depth in different provinces and cities are different. The four factors of per capita GDP,urbanization rate, per capita disposable income of urban residents and per capita energy footprint have positive effects on the footprint depth. The three-dimensional ecological footprint of 10,000 yuan GDP has a negative impact on all provinces.Total population, cultivated land area, the proportion of the secondary industry has different positive and negative effects on different provinces and cities.
