Polydicyclopentadiene(PDCPD)is a new type of composite material with high mechanical strength,excellent thermal stability and suitable for the technology of reaction injection molding(RIM).It has wide applications in vehicles,pipes,sanitary and other fields as well.In order to expand the application areas and enhance the mechanical properties of PDCPD materials,researchers often use norbornene derivatives which can polymerize through ring opening metathesis polymerization catalyst and olefins which can polymerize under free radical polymerization catalyst as raw material to modify PDCPD via catalytic copolymerization.In this paper,we selected three kinds of norbornene monomers for modifying PDCPD composites,and we also studied the technology of making PDCPD composites.Hereby,for the first time,we choosed endic anhydride(NA,commercial)and synthesized exo,endo-2,3-dicarbomethoxy-5-norbornene(exo-DCNM),endo,endo-2,3-dicarbomethoxy-5-norbornene(endo-DCNM)for modifying PDCPD by catalytic copolymerization under ruthenium catalyst M1.Various techniques like NMR,gel permeation chromatography,scanning electron microscope,thermogravimetric analysis were used for analysing polymerization of comonomers and micro-structure of modified PDCPD products.After optimizing the technological parameters of making PDCPD composites,eventually we used NA,exo-DCNM,endo-DCNM to modify PDCPD composites by RIM technology.and also investigated the mechanical strength and thermal stability of modified PDCPD products.The test results showed that: 1)we observed increase in the tensile and bending performance of PDCPD/PNA products with increase of NA content,By adding 10 wt% NA,40.79% and 18.67% increase was monitored in the tensile and bending strength of modified PDCPD products respectively.2)First increase and then decrease in the tensile and bending performance,while always increase in the impact strength and heat deflection temperature of PDCPD/exo-PDCNM products by increasing exo-DCNM content was found.By adding 20 wt% exo-DCNM,the impact strength and heat deflection temperature of modified PDCPD products were 17.18 J/m and 98.7? respectively.3)Furthermore,tensile,bending,impact performance and heat deflection temperature of modified PDCPD products were increase at first and then decrease with increase of endo-DCNM content,when adding 15 wt% endo-DCNM,the tensile performance and heat deflection temperature of modified PDCPD products increase by 32.89% and 17.86% respectively.Different tests and analysis showed that the presence of polar groups in monomer,flexible molecular chains,and some changes of the cross-linking degree in the modifed PDCPD polymer,which greatly improved mechanical strength and thermal stability of PDCPD.Finally,thermogravimetric and scanning electron microscope analysis showed that the modified PDCPD products belonged to homogeneous polymer system.
