"Transition" is a very popular topic nowadays.People are discussing "transition",ranging from the national economy to business operation,even personal career.Indeed,in the face of the progress of science and technology,the development of socio-economy and the increasing fierce of competition,in order to adapt to the changes of internal and external business environments and resources and conditions,as well as constantly maintain and gain new competitive edge,and ultimately seek for better development,"transition" is an inevitable choice.Since the US subprime mortgage crisis erupted in 2008,trigging a global financial crisis and the Europe debt crisis,the global economy has been in a slow recovery and now the global economy and trade is experiencing a feeble growth.Foreign trade enterprises are like bridges,connected to domestic market on one side and connected to overseas market on the other side;connected to manufacturers on one side and connected to downstream consumption on the other side.In recent years,those enterprises also have the feel of pressure on their operations.Facing a series of shocks,such as the slowdown of the major economies and emerging market economics,domestic overcapacity,rising of production factor costs and internet economy sweeping the globe,numerous foreign trade enterprises are seeking for "strategic transitions",in order to adapt to the new economic normality and the new pattern of foreign trade operations,and eventually to forge new core competences.As a state-owned company which has nearly 40 years of experience in foreign trade,G Company went through the transitions of China's foreign trade institutions.Since China joined WTO,G Company carried out a series of "strategic transitions",to adapt to the changes of foreign trade operations environment,forging the core competences that support the long-term developments of the company.This article adopts the method of case study.Taking G Company as example,it systematically combs the background of G Company's export business strategic transitions,measures of transitions and the effects of transitions,by learning from those related domestic and foreign theories and literatures about strategic transitions.And furthermore,utilizing theories and analytical models about strategic managements,it analyzes how G Company adapts to the changes of external business operation environments and industry development trends,on its own initiatives,as well as fully excavates,forges and exploits its own business resources and advantages,to capture the right market positioning and operation direction,further executes a series of strategic transitions and operation revolutions,ultimately rebuilds its competence on export businesses,bringing fresh operating energy and growth potential.This article hopes to bring inspirations and references to the other companies' strategic transition,by studying and analyzing G Company's strategic transitions in depth.
