Schiff base is also known as imine. The structure contains(-C=N-)functional group. It has the characteristics of easy ring formation and easy coordination. It is a very important kind of nitrogen-containing organic compounds.Schiff base is usually formed by the condensation of amine and carbonyl group, which has the characteristics of easy synthesis, high yield and few by-products.At present, the application of Schiff base involves many fields such as catalysis and medicine, and has attracted much attention because of its many applications, especially in drug research. The application of Schiff bases in drug research not only shows their potential as drugs for the treatment of cancer, malaria and tuberculosis, but also exhibits antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral activities. In organic synthesis,Schiff bases can be used as pigments, dyes and catalyst intermediates, and as polymer stabilizers.Because of its simple synthesis and diversity of applications and versatility,it can also be used as a catalyst for various reactions in biology. Therefore,Schiff base is a kind of compounds worth studying. In this paper,16 novel Schiff bases were synthesized by the reaction between benzil monohydrazone(BMH)and various aldehydes or ketones containing benzene rings,or heterocyclic rings. The crystal and molecular structures of these 16 new Schiff bases were confirmed by means of X-ray single crystal diffraction,~1HNMR and other methods,UV-Vis spectra of these compounds were compared and analyzed.Fluorescence properties were also studied and compared,it is found that all of these Schiff bases have strong fluorescence peaks, but the fluorescence peaks of Schiff bases containing benzene rings is significantly stronger than that containing heterocyclics. Finally, their in vitro anti-tumor activities were tested by the MTT method.against three kinds of tumor cell lines,i.e.A375 melanoma cells,A549 lung cancer cells, and HELA cervical cancer cells. It was found that there is some kinds of gradually changed relationships between their structures and anticancer activies.
