Objective Through the detection of radiation protection effects of interventional radiation workplaces, personal dose monitoring of radiation workers, radiation occupational health monitoring data, and investigation and analysis of radiation protection awareness of interventional radiation workers in some medical institutions in Hubei Province, the aim of this study is to understand the impact of occupational exposure on the physical health status of interventional radiation workers, explore possible adverse factors and problems and grasp the current status of radiation protection for interventional radiation workers,in order to provide targeted suggestions for improving and optimizing the protection of interventional radiation sites, and provide scientific basis for reducing the exposure dose of interventional radiation workers. Methods Protective testing data and testing reports for interventional radiation workplaces, personal dose monitoring data and occupational health examination results of 15 medical institutions in Hubei Province were tested in the field and collected by investigators.Intervention staff research questionnaire was designed and evaluated by reliability and validity.Radiation protection awareness of radiation workers in 15 medical institutions were investigated anonymously.Radiation protection training, occupational health examination, personal dose monitoring, protective equipment uses, and radiation protection knowledge were covered in the questionnaire. Then the data were imported into SPSS.The counting data were measured by chi-square test, and the measurement data were measured by Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney U test. The differences and causes of radiation site protection test results, personal dose data, and occupational health check indicators were analyzed to find out the main factors that impact radiation protection awareness among interventional radiation workers.Results?1?This study surveyed 26 radiation workplaces in 15 institutions,1,054radiation workers, including 370 interventional radiation workers.225 valid questionnaires were collected.?2?The dose equivalent rate range outside the computer room of the interventional radiology workplace of 15 medical institutions in Hubei Province was0.11?1.12?Sv/h.The first specific surgeon's kinetic energy rate of air in the protective zone was 2.9?399.6?Gy/h,and the second operator position was 2.9?395.0?Gy/h.?3?According to the type of work on the radiographic work permit, radiation workers in 15 medical institutions were classified into 5 categories in interventional radiation, radiological diagnosis, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, and other. The average annual effective dose M(P25,P75)of interventional radiation workers in 15medical institutions was 0.131?0.082,0.213?mSv/a,and the overall average annual effective dose of radiation workers in all types of work was 0.130?0.080,0.200?mSv/a.The highest middle-age effective dose?5.093mSv/a?of interventional radiation workers exceeded the investigation level set by the state, and the annual effective dose of the remaining radiation workers was within normal range.?4?Among radiation workers of different types of work, the abnormal rate of micronuclei in peripheral blood lymphocytes from interventional radiation workers was 30.4%,which was higher than the rate from radiological diagnostics, radiotherapy and other radiological staffs??2=15.219,P<0.005?.With the increase of working age,the micronucleus abnormality rates of interventional radiation workers in the 0?10 year group,11?20 year group and the>20 year group were 24.3%,28.2%,and 51.0%,respectively,showing an upward trend??2=12.965,P<0.005?.?5?The best performance of interventional radiation staff in radiological protection management was personal dose monitoring, with a dosimeter wearing rate of 92.4%.The overall knowledge of radiation protection knowledge among interventional radiation workers was insufficient, and the pass rate of the questionnaire was only 42.7%,which was positively correlated with working age??2=6.034,P<0.005?.Interventional radiation workers over 47 years of age had thehighest level of radiation protection knowledge??2=8.653,P<0.005?.Theparticipation rate of occupational health examinations for male staff was 89.8%,which was higher than that for females. In general, the technicians had the best radiation protection awareness than other professions.Conclusion?1?The detection results of interventional radiation workplace protection in Hubei Province met the national standards.?2?The average annual effective dose of interventional radiation workers was within the limits of national standards, but it was at a high level in different types of radiation work.?3?The damage caused by X-ray radiation to the health status of interventional radiation workers was higher than that of medical radiation workers other than nuclear medicine;therefore, the health monitoring of interventional radiation workers should be strengthened.?4?Interventional radiation workers had little knowledge of radiation protection theory. So,radiation protection awareness needs to be improved.
