Choosing the carbon emissions from transport sector in China from 1997 to 2016 as the research object, the paper establishes the economic, technological and demographic factor model and uses panel data regression method to explore how these factors influence the carbon emissions in China from the national level and regional level. The empirical results of national analysis show that the per capita GDP,unit turnover energy consumption, industrialization and transport output value ratio have a significant positive impact on the carbon emissions. The transport consumer price index is the only inhibiting factor of carbon emission.Patents number and clean energy ratio have significant negative impact on the carbon emissions of the transportation sector.Energy intensity is the biggest technological factor contributing to the increment of carbon emissions of the transportation sector. The impact of population size, urbanization and education level on the carbon emissions of the transportation sector is also significantly positive. At different quantiles, the effects of these factors on the carbon emissions are different. The empirical results of regional analysis show that the impact of per capita GDP on carbon emissions is positive and significant, and the impact of industrialization on carbon emissions in the transportation sector is significant only in the low-carbon emission low-economic region and the high-carbon high-economic group. The impact of the consumer price index in most of the research regions is significantly negative. The proportion of transport industry output value only plays a significant role in promoting carbon emissions in high-carbon high-economic region. The impact of energy intensity on carbon emissions is significantly positive. The impact of patent number and unit turnover energy consumption on carbon emissions is significantly positive, and the proportion of clean energy has the only inhibitory effect on carbon emissions. The impact of population size and urbanization on carbon emissions is also significantly positive. The education level has significant positive impact in most of the study areas, but the effect of aging on the carbon emissions is not significant. The interaction between transport out put value and per capita GDP,the interaction between the patents number and per unit turnover energy consumption, and the interaction between urbanization and population size have significant impact on the carbon emissions, but the effects in different regions have some differences. The interaction between industrialization and GDP per capita, the interaction between energy intensity and per unit of turnover energy consumption are only significant in the low-carbon high-economic and high-carbon high-economic regions, and the interaction between the transport price index and per capita GDP has a significant impact on the carbon emissions in the high-carbon high-economic region. The interaction between clean energy ratio and unit turnover energy consumption, the interaction between education level and population have only significant negative impact on the carbon emission in low-carbon high-economic region.
