Strengthen environmental protection and efficient use of resources is a major theme in the world today.steel slag is one of the greatest amount of solid waste in the world,the recycling of steel slag has become an important research topic at home and abroad.Currently highway construction develops quickly in our country and the demand for quality material grows increasingly.On the other hand,a mountain of the steel slag not only take up a lot of land,but also pollute the environmental.There is important meaning for society and environmental to use steel slag as road the material.In the recycling of the steel slag resources,Europe and the United States and other developed countries reached 100%,most of steel slag has been applied to the project construction,but in China the ratio is only about half that of European and American countries,as the depth and width of the research is not enough,the loss of the resources is still not small.This paper focuses on steel slag produced by Liuzhou Iron and Steel Company as the object of study,through a series of indoor experimental,studying the characteristics of the steel slag material and mechanical properties of the steel slag&SMA-13 asphalt mixture,discussing the feasibility of steel slag as road materials.The physical and mechanical property of steel slag is very similar to crude gravel,it is a kind of potential building material with good properties;and also studying the mineral composition and chemical composition and volume stability of steel slag.Combined with the meteorological conditions inGuangxi region,making the design and preparation of the steel slag&SMA-13 asphalt mixture,and assessing the Marshall test results of the asphalt mixture with the volume design method.This paper analyzed and evaluated five aspects of swelling,high temperature stability,water stability,surface characteristics and low temperature crack.In the process of the experiments,making the comparison test with the corresponding indicators of asphalt mixture to natural rock(diabase and limestone).In the last,expounding and analyzing the construction technology and social and economic benefits of the steel slag&SMA-13 asphalt mixture.As road-building material,the steel slag applied in road project construction,not only solving the problem that the natural rock is short supply,but also protecting the natural environment,it has a broad prospect in the engineering field.
