A wind farm consists of many wind generators and they are coupled to the grid.In modern era countries are emphasizing on clean renewable energy.But the biggest drawback is the fluctuation and variability in the natural resources e.g wind is not so strong or too strong to be converted to Electrical energy.Another big issue is the maximum load is of induction motors which consumes reactive power and have issues in power quality as the modern equipment?s are sensitive like laptops and other industrial appliances etc.So we need an uninterrupted as well as good quality of electricity i.e why we use STATCOM.It is one type of FACTS devices which is similar to synchronous compensator which is used in industries for power quality improvements and voltage stability.It escalates transmission capability,improve transient stability.This thesis presents a design of fuzzy based STATCOM for the transient stability and power quality improvement.Although there are some models of shunt compensation are already present,most of these are based on conventional control schemes.There are several difficulties in the design of the conventional control design such as know the model of the controlled system,know the objective function formulated in precise terms,and be able to solve the corresponding mathematical design problem.Sometimes the objective function is not known,design solutions cannot be achieved or some other limitations lead to the inability to apply conventional control.Fuzzy logic presents us with a control scheme that is simpler to the conventional schemes and gives better results.For this thesis it is proposed to design STATCOM using fuzzy logic with direct control and centroid defuzzification method is used and has been implemented in the system.The SIMULINK/MATLAB software package is used for simulation of test system.In this research we have selected different scenarios in which we will test our model and verify its correctness..The study demonstrates that STATCOM not only considerably improves dynamic stability but also compensates the reactive power in steady state.
