The development and utilization of renewable resources is an effective way to solve the problems of energy supply and environmental protection. With the development of economy, the demand for enery supply is increasing, which could be satisfied by the rational development and utilization of renewable resources. Successively, the dependence on fossil fuels is reduced, and the emission of Co2 and sulfide is cut. Wind energy, as a renewable resource, is an important complement for the energy development all over the world.Shangdu, Inner Mongolia, is with a vast territory, less residents and harsh natural environment. However, the wind energy is abundant there. This paper mainly focuses on the feasibility of constructing wind farms in Shangdu. By analyzing the data from historical meterology and previous field investigation, it is concluded that the wind energy in Shangdu is very stable. The results show that the annual available time of the wind (3-20m/s) at the height of 70m is 8219 hours, most of which is distributed in 9~16m/s, about 63.7% of all. There is no destructive wind condition recorded, and most of the wind energy is available. By properly choosing the wind engines and locations, the annual operation time can reach up to 2400 hours, showing a great developing potential.
