A Research On Outdoor Shadow Space Design In The Renewal Of Old City Blocks In Guangzhou

Guangzhou is a marine subtropical monsoon climate.It is warm,rainy and sunny all the year round,especially in summer.For a long time,people are trying to alleviate the impact of this hot weather on the living environment through the design of building roofs,building facades and building materials.However,the exploration concerned more about the interior space of buildings,and relatively few researches on the active use of shadow to create shady outdoor space in summer.In the old city,the construction and the population are dense.In the process of the renewal of the old city,the construction regulations and the local historical protection buildings are restricted.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to actively explore the corresponding outdoor shadow space design method in view of the characteristics of the old city blocks.Through the field investigation and historical data collection in the scope of the old city blocks in Guangzhou,this study summarizes the main four specific outdoor activities space in the old city,namely,the street space,the small square space,the green space and the bottom space.According to the present situation of the shadow space in the specific outdoor space and the activity characteristics of the outdoor active crowd,analyze the problems of the shadow space utilization,and put forward the corresponding shadow space layout strategy.exploring the regularity of the shadow space in different specific space types through the simulation of the Ecotect software,the method of shadow space design under the specific environment is as follows:1.In the renewal of the old city,it is the best choice to choose the traffic organization network or the form of the North and South main road to the shadow space.For the East and West Street,it should avoid dismantling or lowering the building height on both sides of the street,appropriately reducing the distance between the two sides of the building,or adding some structures or plants.2.The results of field investigation show that the peak period of crowd activities in the old city blocks is from 9 to 11 a.m.and 3 to 6 p.m.,so the design of shadow space should meet the needs of the crowd in this period.3.In the overall construction,the outdoor shadow space design of the old city block should pay attention to and effectively deal with the problems of the shadow space coverage limited,the shadow space no effective coordination with the active space,and the problem of the time dislocation of the shadow space not match the characteristics of the crowd activity.4.The small square space surrounded by four sides is the best form for forming a comfortable shadow space.The small square space enclosed by three sides which orientate south or north is the best choice,followed by the east orientation,and the heat environment of the west orientation is the worst.5.Shading vegetation and structures are arranged in North and South in the center of the ground is the most effective way to form the shadow space,and the shadow space under the South or North side of the building is better than the East or the West.6.Under the restrictive conditions of one or more side buildings that not detachable,it is suitable to choose to increase the height of the building on the east side or the west side.If only local height can only be increased,the roof of the west side is preferred,then the south side or the north side;and the priority is to choose the part near the side of the site.
