Design And Application Of Modern Chinese Landscape In Residential Quarters

Modern Chinese Landscape is the presentation of traditional garden art in the modern style.As the epitome of landscape art,traditional Jiangnan gardens also share the same space pattern—"living" as the core,which undoubtedly has extraordinary guiding significance for the landscape formation in modern residential quarters.Inherit and develop the methods used in traditional Jiangnan private gardens,construct modern residential quarters with Chinese landscapes,which can satisfy the modern life and fit the aesthetic of Chinese.The research and practice of the modern Chinese landscape in residential quarters plays a great role in the inheritance of Chinese culture,the construction of high quality living environment,reshaping the image of the city and the formation of a benign ecological effect.In this paper,I will take the residential area-West Lake City Project as an example,and will demonstrate the theme named with "Top Ten of the West Lake" of the traditional Jiangnan private gardens which the design methods including layout,mountain,water,landscape architecture and plant.I will analyze of Modern Chinese Landscape which inherits and develops from the traditional Private Garden,and will discuss the application of Modern Chinese Landscape in residential quarters.Landscape Design can be divided into 4 elements:space layout,form expression,material application and cultural artistic conception.In space layout,collection of garden landscapes and three-layer landscape system and functional interaction techniques will be used.In form expression,four design patterns including concentration,replacement,mirroring and boundary are used in West Lake City when dealing with water,water drops and water falls are combined to make it diversified;about hills,it keeps one principle--"less is more","one pool,three hills" and stone piling.In landscape architecture,simple buildings such as Pavilion,veranda and King Pavilion;flat buildings such as tower silhouette,white walls with common opened windows and architectural pieces such as stairs and pavement;in addition to plant communities on the large slope area,there are three main types of plant design in West Lake City,namely:trees in squares,ribbon ground and natural space of small forests.In material application,detailed analysis is made for water,hills and plants,also the hard landscape structure.About the soft landscape,species selection and integration is made to express the characteristics of "Top Ten of the West Lake".In humanistic conception,discussions are made mainly in the aspects including the humanistic conception of "Top Ten of the West Lake",features of Jiangnan gardens,fluent space of emptiness,4D conception to borrow ideas from the nature and the human feelings etc.Through the practice of the above 4 aspects,this paper puts forward the evaluation system of the landscape design of the modern residential quarters with Chinese landscapes.Based on the analysis of similarities and differences between traditional private garden and modem residential quarters with Chinese landscapes,we can see that fitness is the key point,therefore concludes that in the practice,we should grasp the extent how modern Chinese landscape inherits the traditional Jiangnan gardens,the coordination of architecture and landscape in modern Chinese landscape and the material requirements.Artistic conception is the soul of modern Chinese landscape.In practice,meaning is the core par.Between the form and the meaning,emphasis shall be put on the grasp of the meaning.This paper also puts forward that the most important requirement of modern residential quarters with Chinese landscapes is to meet the needs of modern life mode in function.Finally the paper raises the deficiencies arose in the practice of West Lake City and places high hopes for the future of Modern Chinese Landscape:Modern Chinese Landscape has a unique historical background.Self-identity of the culture will retrospect to the source of its own.It will inherit and make innovations based on traditional Jiangnan Private Gardens,improve the city environment gradually engulfed by the western architecture and landscape of the city,especially,the rural environment has a bad need for development.We really hope more excellent works of Modern Chinese Landscape will appear in our country to make it possible for more people to contact,live in it and feel the beauty of Modern Chinese Landscape,in this way,the culture can be perceived and our excellent traditional culture and art can be developed.
