As the main impetus to promote economic production and social advancement, energy is the essential foundations for the stable and steady development of a country. However, with the rapid depletion of traditional energy and fast changing trend in the world's political structure,China's energy supply is constantly threatened. In order to explore the energy security in our country, this research first analyzes the development status and existing problems of Chinese traditional energy and non-traditional energy sources.Next, through integrated method,Analytical Hierarchy Process(AHP)and Delphi,an energy security evaluation index system is established.Energy safety scores of three traditional energy sources and five non-traditional energy sources from 2011 to 2015 are calculated. The impacts of geopolitical factors on conventional energy, and the issues and strategies of renewable energy development in China are further analyzed. As the results show, firstly, among the three traditional energy sources, coal has the highest safety index, followed by oil,and natural gas.Coal is also used as the major fossil fuel for energy consumption in China. However, the huge amount of natural gas storage and less environmental impacts has led natural gas becoming the major choice for future energy development.Oil is the most unstable energy supply due to geopolitical influence.Secondly,in terms of non-traditional energy sources, hydropower has the highest safety factor, and is can be considered the highest priority, followed by wind energy, geothermal energy, biomass energy, and solar energy. The technical problems and the costs of exploitation and utilization of non-conventional energy have hindered its development towards commercialized mass production. Finally,in order to avoid political threats completely,China should gradually reduce the proportion of traditional energy consumption so to reduce external dependence,Most importantly,China should develop renewable energy reasonably. It is necessary to establish a special technology research platform to break through technical barriers to reduce the price of energy;at the same time, actively promote the development of infrastructure for the use of new energy and improve energy efficiency.
