The Research On Optimize Urban Fringe Space Structure Of Baotou City

As a zone of transition between the downtown and rural area,the urban fringe on one hand,is a special product of urbanization in a certain phase;on the other hand,continues to grow as the city sprawls.Usually,compared to other places,this area is most sensitive to urban changes,thus it enjoys the most rapid changes in the urbanization as well.The recent years have witnessed tremendous developments in terms of transportation and information technology with the integration of city and countryside.Accordingly,the spatial structure of the city fringe has been under great changes.The city fringe of the Baotou city in Inner Mongolia-the first key industry site in the First Five Year Plan,is of distinct characteristics throughout the history of its function and spatial structure.To a large extent,the development of city fringe in Baotou has exerted great impacts on the economy and other relative driving force mechanisms of the neighboring regions.The growing population and upgraded industrial structure have marked a new chapter for the development of the Baotou city.At such a turning point,contradictions of housing,employment,between the farmland protection and urbanization,and between the economic development and environmental protection have emerged in rapid succession.An optimization and an adjustment in the urban structure are extremely urgent.This thesis includes three parts.Above all,it is defined the scope of Baotou urban fringe and analyzed the urban fringe evolution.The second part extracts the key factors that influencing the evolution of urban fringe areas in Baotou.The third part,Baotou features a unique urban pattern,marked by long and narrow topography,constrained by ecological corridors both in south and north.Therefore,an in-depth discussion concerning how to develop the city fringe in Baotou is conducted in this paper,striving to answer questions,such as how to use the experience of others for reference;how to find out the most proper way for intensive and sustainable development based on the local conditions;and even how to promote the integration of Hu-Bao-E city agglomeration.Methods like ArcGIS,on-site investigation and survey,as well as interviews,are adopted to summarized changes and evolution in the development of city fringe throughout the history.An analysis regarding the influential factors of the law of structural development is also conducted with hopes of effective optimization proposals and strategies.
