The principle of pedagogy believes that children build their understandings of the world through contacting with the surrounding natural and social environment.Their cognitive abilities,emotions,wills,interests,talents,personalities,ideals and beliefs are all formed and developed in social life.Children’s growth and development are deeply influenced by the environment.Kind of educational model is always with corresponding teaching environment.In recent years,the educational model has been changed from exam-oriented education to quality education and profoundly influencing school architecture.The new educational concept appeals for attention to the true needs of each student,teaching students in accordance with their aptitude,focusing on cultivating students’ innovative abilities,and emphasizes the importance of active learning.The concept of education affects all aspects of campus planning and design,and the renewal of ideas has been brought fundamental changes to campus design.The construction of educational buildings in China is entering a new period of development.At the same time,the primary school campus in a high-density urban environment is facing severe problems,such as lack of urban construction land,the pressure of degree,and the complex urban environment around the campus.Regardless of the requirements of policies and regulations or the requirements of users’ own development,the primary school building design under the intensive urban environment has been put forward new ideas for the public exchange sites on the campus,sports facilities,and the interest and richness of space.In order to meet the above needs,the form of multiple spatial attributes of overhead space provides a new direction.The early primary schools in Guangzhou and Shenzhen were mostly with a fixed style.They were similar to each other and lacked of individuality.Due to the fixed form,they caused some irrational use of functions.The southern areas in which the two cities are located are hot and rainy in summer and “back to south day” in winter and spring,which greatly promoted the exploration and construction of this space form.This paper mainly explores the research on the aerial space of the primary schools in Guangzhou and Shenzhen under the southern climate conditions.It aims to break the overhead space as a dispensable space for attachment and form a system for the theoretical research and design practice of the primary school overhead space.Discuss the influencing factors of aerial space design,and study how to achieve the combination of overhead space and natural conditions,sports venues,landscapes,and various emerging non-classroom teaching spaces(such as interesting squares,outdoor classrooms,planting experimental sites,and parent-child activity venues),which can increase the richness and interest of campus space.
