| Since the reform and opening up,a large number of historical cities in our country have pursued prosperity at the cost of "sacrificing" culture in the process of rapid urbanization. The "collapse" of the ancient city has caused the disruption of urban context and urban memory. As the national historical and cultural city,Guangzhou is also faced with the same dilemma. While urbanization in our country gradually entering the "new normal" of emphasizing cultural connotation, and the "new era" of feeding culture and achieving better life by economy,we need to fully recognize the cultural significance of historical urban space in an overall and historical perspective so as to better promote cultural inheritance and city vitality. From the perspective of narratology, urban spatial cognition research focuses not only on human cognition but the connotation of cultural memory inside the space. The attention to the "synchronic" and "diachronic" in the urban narrative space analysis will promote a deeper understanding of the historical context of the city and consolidate the recognition and collective memory in spatial cognition. With the research technique of the urban narrative space, including review on literature, interpretation on ancient maps and historical images and literature, along with the qualitative and quantitative analysis of space syntax, this paper studies the narrative image of historical urban space in Guangzhou. It first explores and constructs the narrative images of the Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China and the present historical urban area in Guangzhou by excavating urban space in the historical area, which contains city emotion, spiritual value and city memory, and analyze the characteristics of the narrative image changes from two aspects of perception and the imagism, with the comparative analysis of the historical evolution.Based on in-depth reading of the cultural context and characteristics of historical urban area in Guangzhou, this paper puts forward the countermeasures for the inheritance of historical context in the city. The results show that the narrative image of historical urban area in Guangzhou has developed and continued over the last thousand years. And it was mainly formed in the Qing Dynasty, inherited in the Republic of China, but apparently broken and blurred at present. It is mainly reflected in the disappearance of the space entity of early narrative image, the oblivion of the memory of virtual body in the narrative space, and the decline of the integration of the narrative image network with citizens’ life.In this paper,we build the overall framework of narrative city image under historical layers, through repairing and restoring the landscape network of narrative image, excavating and reproducing the diversity of city stories and cultural paths, andoptimizing the spatial accessibility and the capacity of public activities,we intend to promote the inheritance of urban context, the spread of cultural memory, and the shape of urban space features. |
