Rain park design is an area of urban public arts design and it involves the design of city stormwater management greening of city roads, city water body and other urban public ecological design, hence its great research significance. This thesis studies the design of Paynes Prairie,a rain park in Florida State. The choice of this project is duo to the author’s frequent visit of this park and considering it to be an example to embody American notions of park design like low impact and best management. It not only fulfill the environmental functions of rain park, but also demonstrates the thoughts of respecting nature and harmonious coexistence of humans with nature.Through traffic analysis, visual analysis and landscape analysis into the project, this thesis summarizes the landscape design conceptions concerning solving urban flooding problem through rain parks.Additionally, anesthetic analysis is done in order to find the specific measures used by this project in coloring, spacing, special combing and transmitting of human signals. In the design of Paynes Prairie, the arrangement of water processing respects the flowing nature of water, which also underlines the descriptive order of this thesis. In terms of methodology, this research emphasizes interdisciplinary feature of park design to highlight the function of rain parks and also makes use of GIS information data system to scan the project from different angles and bases all analyses on scientific data to increase the reliability of conclusions.Paynes Prairie demonstrates the enormous potential of rain parks in city beautifying, ecosystem optimizing and sustainability of urban development. This thesis constitutes 6 parts. The first part is an introduction to state the theoretical and realistic significance of this research, briefing the latest domestic and international researches in this area and introducing research content and methods to be applied. The second part is literature review, analyzing the functions of parks by reviewing their history and also presenting theories and terms related to urban green land and rain watermanagement. The third part is a research into the design notions embodied in the project of Paynes Prairie, which is followed the forth part, the anesthetic analysis to the project. The fifth part generalizes interior factors of rain park design. The final part is a summary of the whole research, summarizing the findings and how they may be applied in future research.
