Container terminal gate is the inevitable passage for the trucks to move in or out of the container terminal,which plays an important part in container terminal.The method of increasing the capacity of port through capacity such as increasing the efficiency of loading and unloading will gradually be unable to meet the needs of the development of container ports in the new period.So,find the bottlenecks restricting the development of container ports,and study the planning and construction theory and operation management methods of container ports to meet the requirements of the new era is necessary.With the rapid growth of the container transportation,serious congestion problems begun to appear in the container terminal gates which severely restrict the efficiency of operations.In order to solve the problem,a growing number of container terminals choose to set buffer area for the waiting truck.With the rapid growth of container throughput and large-scale of the container ships,there comes lots of new challenge on construction and management of the container terminal,as well as improving the efficiency of production and operation.One of the most important targets is to determine the scientific and reasonable scale of the terminal gates and buffer areas,which is meaningful for saving the resource of land and equipment,as well as improving the efficiency of production and operation of the container terminal system.This paper builds a simulation model of container gates system combined with the operation process characteristics of container terminal operation system,and then calculates the proper scale of the gates and buffer area.In order to evaluate the reasonable scale of the container gates and the buffer area,this paper puts forward the concept of the Limit Passing Ability and the Guarantee Rate.Taking a container terminal in north China as an example,we simulate the relationship of the buffer area and the arrival rules of trucks under different simulation scheme gates combination,and fits the simulation output data.The results show that the arrival rules of trucks and the proper scale of the buffer area have the relation of exponential distribution under different simulation scheme gates combination.The proper scale of the container gates and buffer area will increase as the number of trucks arriving per hour grows.From the view of port planning and operation,when the arrival number of container truck is less than the Limit Passing Ability,we can expand the buffer area to alleviate the congestion of the container gate operation system.When the arrival number of container truck exceed the Limit Passing Ability,expand the buffer area have no significant impact of solving the congestion problem of the container terminal,we should build more container gats to alleviate the congestion problem.Based on the system simulation technology,the simulation model of the container port gate operation system is set up,and the reasonable scale of the container port gate and the buffer zone is studied.The research achievements of this paper could provide important reference for designing container gates and buffer area quantitatively...
