The operation system of container port area is a typical discrete system and it has large randomness, strong concurrency and large amount of factors. It is difficult to truly reflect the dynamic variation of various random elements in the process of container port operation by traditional mathematical analytical methods. Computer simulation technology provides an effective method for studying such random, dynamic, complicated system issues. By modifying and adjusting the model parameters, the simulation test can be repeated and the impact due to parameter change can be observed in real time.The paper established a simulation model by using Simio modeling software, with view of ‘object-oriented' model instead of ‘process-oriented' and ‘event-oriented' in the traditional modeling methods, which makes the modeling process much more simpler. In addition, on the basis of standard processes and standard object library, object with specific behaviors can be generated by modifying the object attributes, changing the process. Based on the analysis of operating system of container port area and in-depth research on the actual container terminal, the object-oriented modeling software Simio is applied to establishing a simulation model of it.The actual statistical data of Five-Continents International Container Terminal in 2013 is applied to validating the model, combing the basis of which simulation model and the current berth throughput capacity formula of the container terminal, different simulation model is established respectively and the effects of the arrival distribution, the utilization of container berth, the trend of large-sized vessel on the throughput capability of container terminal are analyzed. It provides a new method for real, objective forecast of the throughput capability of container terminal.
