With the rapid development of city economy,underground metal pipeline has become the lifeline of the city,which is not only an important part of the city infrastructure construction,but also an essential factor to achieve economic growth and social sustainable development.Meanwhile,the accurate detection of underground metal pipeline is particularly important in the process of urban modernization.This paper summarily introduces the non-destructive testing techniques and the common methods for both non-metallic and metallic underground pipelines,analyzes the detection principle of underground metal pipeline based on electromagnetic field and electromagnetic wave,and studies the electrical distribution parameters of metal pipeline and their effects in current detection technology as well.Because the coil that receives the electromagnetic wave is the core part of underground metal pipeline detection device,the article describes the structural characteristics and detection principles of the three types of detection coils,which lays a theoretical foundation for the design of the new underground metal pipeline detector.According to the shortcomings of the commonly used underground metal pipeline detection devices,this paper designs a new type underground pipeline detection instrument,in which a three-point detection structure of T-type is adopted,three mutually perpendicular coils are mounted on each detection point working as a receiver.Compared with the traditional receiver,the designed structure can overcome the disadvantage of low detection efficiency and poor accuracy.Finally,this paper elaborates on the positioning method and depth method of the new detection instrument,as well as the hardware designs of the receiver and transmitter.
