Street spatial configuration regarded often as the urban design object is one of the characteristics of urban form,which is shaped by the buildings along the street.Studies have shown that the shape and layout of buildings are limited to the size,shape,location,nature of land use of its plot,land use indicators and the city regulations of all levels.So that it is important to know the correlation between street spatial configuration and those urban regularities for urban designer and architects.This study takes Nanjing as an example.It aims to sort out the urban regulations related to the shape of the street wall,summarize the types of street networks in Nanjing,and comprehensively use the research results of the existing research on the morphological characteristics and architectural layout characteristics of public buildings and residential buildings.Construct a three-dimensional theoretical model which consists of all species and all the positions of plots and reflecting all the impacts of urban spatial regulations on plots and their buildings.Three groups of information are mapped on model:(1)urban planning indicates including land use and traffic network;(2)the plot size,shape,position and building types;(3)urban environment healthy and security rules.By constructing theoretical models and exploring the rules of building form within the plot,the research studies the generation mechanism of street wall morphology and the problems of urban regulations in constructing urban forms.Explore the limitations of street design and the possibilities of urban design and urban regulations with the help of street wall quantitative indicators(wall density,Near-line rate).The research is divided into three parts:First,combing the relationship between urban regulations of Nanjing since 1928 and building forms related to the wall morphology of urban streets in Nanjing since 1928 in four aspects of land use,building setback,land use indicators and building layout.The second is to summarize the types of street networks in Nanjing,the morphological characteristics of building plots and the characteristics of building layout,then construct the rules of building form under the control of urban regulations.The third is to sum up the street wall morphological generation mechanism from urban regulations,plot size and shape,land use and floor area ratio,and discuss the possibility of street wall by means of street wall quantitative indicators.
