With the deterioration of environment and traffic congestion becoming increasingly serious, the development and utilization of underground space become extremely important. How to cure "urban syndrome" so as to realize the sustainable development of the city is the key problem in the process of urban development. Many cities in developed countries have found that the development and utilization of urban underground space is an important way to solve the above problems. In recent years, domestic high-speed rail construction has developed rapidly, many small and mediumsized cities began to build high-speed railway stations to promote the development of the city, but there is no mature special underground space planning in small and medium-sized cities. How to scientifically and systematically plan the underground space of its high-speed railway station area is a problem worthy of further study. The following research work has been carried out to solve this problem in this thesis:First of all, through the analysis of relevant research at home and abroad, this paper summarizes the characteristics of high-speed railway station area and underground space,as well as the characteristics of regional planning of high-speed railway station and underground space planning.Based on the characteristics and problems of the highspeed railway station area planning and underground space planning, the necessity of underground space planning for a high-speed rail station area in small and mediumsized cities is analyzed. Then through the analysis of several domestic and foreign cases of underground space planning for high-speed railway stations, several modes of underground space development in high-speed railway station area are summarized, and the key problems to be solved in underground space planning of small and mediumsized cities are put forward. It provides some references for the study of planning and design points of regional underground space of high-speed railway stations in small and medium-sized cities.Secondly, refer to the underground space planning model of railway station area at home and abroad and the characteristics of high-speed rail station area in small and medium-sized cities, the process of regional underground space planning for highspeed railway stations in small and medium-sized cities is proposed, and the key points and planning methods of underground space planning for high-speed railway station area in small and medium-sized cities are put forward from three aspects: demand forecasting, overall layout, traffic organization.Comprehensive forecasting method should be adopted in the demand forecasting of underground space, and impact of different tourist volume caused by the scale of high-speed railway stations on demand forecasting should be considered. The overall layout includes two parts: function orientation and spatial layout, functional orientation of underground space should be coordinated with planning of above-ground space, and cooperate with the development mode of the above-ground space as the functional supplement of the above-ground space. In space layout, the characteristics of underground space and the vertical layout should be considered.Traffic organization in underground space is composed of,underground rail transit system, underground pedestrian system, underground traffic system and underground parking system and it can relieve traffic pressure on the ground. Thus,a relatively complete regional underground space planning system for high-speed railway stations in small and medium-sized cities has been formed. Finally,in order to demonstrate the applicability and operability of the proposed method, the key points and planning method are applied to the underground space planning of a county high-speed railway station area.
