Present criterions suppose that stresses on the top and bottom surface of rubblemound foundation of gravity wharfs are both linearly distributed and the stress under the fore and hind toe of the structure diffuses to foundation at the ratio of 1:1.5 and 1:0.5 respectively,which ignore the effect of elastic modulus and Poisson ratio of the foundation soil on the foundation bearing capacity.Criterions separate foundation settlement and bearing capacity,therefore the interaction between them has been neglected.Actually,foundation settlement and foundation soil strength should be united to judge the foundation bearing capacity.This essay studied the foundation bearing capacity of gravity wharf using numerical simulation.1.Then the results of criterions and finite element have been compared according to the actual condition.Then problems of foundation bearing capacity in present criterions have been posed and analyzed.2.Stress distribution and its influence factors inner,under the foundation bed and in the foundation soil.The overall finite element model of caisson wharf has been built to analyze the style of stress diffusion and the effect of different factors on sress distribution.3.The impact of varying factors on ultimate and allowable bearing capacity of foundation has been discussed.To simplify the overall model,loads such as horizontal pressure of backfill soil,vertical soil pressure,pile-loading and wave force,have been applied to rubble-mound foundation and back foundation.Therefore,the stress distribution can be proposed according to the qualification of ultimate and allowable bearing capacity.4.Design and calculation method of ultimate bearing capacity of foundation has been proposed.Sensitive factors such as the thickness of rubble-mound foundation and elastic modulus of the foundation soil have been studied according to the sensitivity analysis.Results calculated by present criterions have been revised and then comprehensive correction coefficients have been proposed based on comprehensive failure criterion of foundation.
