International cruise terminal wharf at Tianjin port as the largest man-made port in China, decreases the gap between the advanced wharf overseas and that in our country, and brings great benefits for our national economy.Since the port is constructed on the soft soil foundation in the Tianjin Binhai Developing Area, the bearing capacity of the soil foundation should be large enough to avoid any failure. Therefore,it is very necessary to handle the bearing behavior of the soil foundation,so that the bearing capacity is suitably determined to ensure the stability of the port structures. The research work in this paper covers the following aspects:(1)Taking the Tianjin International Cruise Home Port Project as the background,on the basis of the design codes and basic theories for the investigation, the testing program and construction technology for bearing capacity of soil foundation is given,in which the key problems in the construction process are pointed out and the solutions are presented.(2)By processing the data collected in the in situ investigations and laboratory experiments, the soil characteristics, genetic type and physical and mechanical properties are analyzed;the site classification is identified;the ultimate shaft resistance and the ultimate tip resistance of the precast piles and bored piles as well the soil horizontal resistant coefficients are given associated with the soil layers and elevations, and the bearing capacity tests are concluded.(3)Making use of the finite element software ABAQUS6.11 associated with the Mohr-Coulomb constructive relation model, the soil stress and settlement changing with distance and depth are studied.
