Research On Rural Landscape Design Under The Context Of Critical Regionalism

As the continuous introduction of rural construction policy and task named The Beautiful Villages and The Rural Complex,China has now gone further in the enhancement of rural civilization and the beauty of the nation,thus generating a sensation among the whole country which emphasizes the beauty of countryside in order to bring those villages back to the brink of being homogenized by the unstoppable process of modern urbanization.In terms of reviewing the now-existed achievements of rural construction,cases like those embarrassing reproduction of ancient traditional villages are not something rare,the superficial imitation of the regional rural factors makes the value of rural landscape anomalous.Taking the chances of the policies without thought-provoking considerations toward the regional rural factors only leads to unsustainable development in the rural areas.Meanwhile the term landscape is right under the context of globalization,more and more modern elements take their roots in the rural landscapes which makes unprecedented impact on the natural and cultural resources on which traditional rural landscapes rely.How to move along with the modern world while maintaining and promoting regional characteristics of the rural areas is yet a problem to be solved in the rural landscape currently.As the result of the fierce discussion between internationalism and regionalism,critical regionalism is,for the first time in history,a theory that adopted a critical attitude toward both sides of the discussion,reversing the binary opposition between the two,surviving between the term of Regional and Global in order to achieve the critical unison of the two opposing sides.The logic behind this compromising concept is exactly what Chinese rural development seeks for at the very moment,and this is where the paper takes the opportunity to see rural landscape design in the context of the critical regionalism theory,exploring the value and significance when combining the two as a whole for rural landscape development.Firstly,major points of critical regionalism theory are stated in the first chapter.Through field research and surveys of representative rural landscape cases,this paper analyzes how these cases react to both regional factors and the modernism in order to summed up the expression of critical regionalism in rural landscapes,and subsequently put forth the strategies for the design of rural landscape based on critical regionalism,naming The use of natural resources,The exploration of the culture and The creation of place spirit,then putting them to the test of rural landscape design in Laoma River located in Qin town of Guizhou Province,to explore the value and significance of the critical regionalism theory to Chinese rural landscape design currently.Finally,through the study of this paper,the ultimate aspire is to provide a new possible outlet for the development of Chinese current rural landscape.
