Through the research and analysis of the complexity of user interface icons based on user experience,Icons complexity from ergonomic was classified,and complexity of icons based on the human machine environment was summarized.The complexity of icon is divided into visual complexity,cognitive complexity and environment complexity.Taking the three as the research direction,and combining the recent hot topics in icons development: the contention of the icon style and the semantic unidentified problems in the current icon design,determine the three dimensions of the complexity of the icons in this paper: icon style,icon semantics and environmental load.The icon style chooses the currently more controversial quasi objects and flat icons,and in term of icon semantic,chooses the latest research direction of icon: icon semantics.In the environmental load of the icon,we choose the quantity factors in the load.Based on the research of visual search,user cognition and other related theories,three dimensions of the complexity of icons are explored by using laboratory eye tracking equipment.The results show that:In response time,the main effect of icon style is significant,and reaction time of quasi icons is less than flat icon.The main effect of the icon environment load is significant.The icon search time of under the low load condition is less than the icon under the condition of high load.The main effect of the icon semantic is significant,and the reaction time of semantic icon is less than no semantic icon.Icon semantic and icon style have significant interaction effects,and icon semantic have little influence on quasi icons,but they play a significant role in flattening icons.The semantic flattening icons are significantly less than non semantic flat users.The interaction effect of icon style and icon load is significant.Reaction time of quasi icons and flat icons in high load are longer than low load.,but flat icon is more influenced by high and low load.In terms of accuracy,the main effect of icon style is significant,and the search accuracy of the icons is obviously higher than the flat icons;the environmental load effect of icons is significant,and the search accuracy of icons under low load conditions is obviously higher than that under high load conditions.The main effect of icon semantic is significant,and the search accuracy of semantic icon is significantly higher than without semantic icon.The interaction effect between icon semantics and icon style is significant,icon semantics has little influence on the search accuracy of the icons,but it has a significant influence on the accuracy of the flat icons,and the search accuracy of no semantic icons is significantly lower than that of the semantic icons.The comprehensive reaction time and the correct rate are analyzed.In the aspect of icon search performance,it is known that the icon style,icon environment load and icon semantics are three dimensions on the search performance of the icon.The quasi icons are superior to the flat icons,and the icons under the low load conditions are superior to the icons under the high negative load conditions,and the semantic icons are superior to those of the icons,and how it present have strong influence on flat icons.Among them,the performance of semantic quasi icon search is the best under low load condition,and the worst performance of search without semantic flat icon.From the above results,the icon style has a significant impact on the performance of icons,whether it is the response time or the correct rate,and whether the icon semantics have a great impact on the flattened icons.We think that the reason for this is that the icons can convey information well,so the meaning of icons has little effect on the icons,while the flat icon element is lacking in the transmission of information.When the icon loses its semantics,the performance of the subjects is significantly reduced.Therefore,we suggest that the designer choose the icons in the icon design,and reduce the number of icons in the human-computer interaction interface,and take a careful consideration of the choice of the icon semantics.When choosing flat icon,we should focus on the semantics of flat icon.
