A Research Of Industrial Heritage For Adaptive Reuse

The rapid urbanization leads to the increasingly conspicuous contradiction between demand for land and limited land resources.The traditional old industrial districts or buildings are a kind of unique cultural heritage.It could recall the industrial period,which also plays an important role in the citizens' mind and reimages urban identity.Meanwhile,the remains recorded a period of glory for a city and they could recall nostalgic which is profound and should be protected seriously.It is a long process to reuse industrial heritage adaptively.Even though much more attention has been paid to this field,such as reconstruction mode,numerous of them are focused on theoretical levels and reusing methods instead of analyzing the achievements of real projects,operation conditions and subsequent progress.To attend to this problem,this research firstly is focused on the particularity,value,situation and issues.Then selecting a case in Wuhan which has undertaken an adaptive reuse of its industrial heritage in recent years.The study included research design and methodology that collected data from site observation,questionnaires,interview and documentary research.In doing so,the researcher summarizing the potential value of industrial heritage in Wuhan,then critically considers the strengths,weaknesses and issues of reusing industrial heritage within the process of Hanyang Zao.Meanwhile,it has been found out that the lack of creativity and satisfaction are the main problems that the case faced,which also are existing in the other project of adaptive reusing industrial heritage in Wuhan.In particular,it is argued that there is a significant lack of sensitivity to local context and the views of residents by government officials and developers in the process of reusing.Finally,the study offers solutions for the adaptive reusing industrial heritage in Wuhan from the aspects of strategic positions,policy guidance,industrial identities,cultural connotation and public participants,which might provide references for the research field of reimaging industrial heritage.
