The regeneration of materials from wasted asphalt pavement has become a study highlight for scholars both in China and abroad.Regeneration agent, whose major function lies in recovering aged asphalt from wasted asphalt materials,is the top priority for such research. This study relies on the study of the influence and mechanism of the recycled engine oil bottom on the modified asphalt performance of the Shandong Natural Science Foundation and the project research on the modified behavior mechanism of reclaimed recycled engine oil bottom to regenerated asphalt in Shandong University Science and Technology project. This research simulated asphalt aging in laboratory and verified its regeneration performance from an experimental angle by using certain amount of wasted engine oil as the regeneration agent. After analyzing the regeneration mechanism of wasted asphalt mixtures, this thesis discusses the feasibility of taking recycled engine oil bottom as regeneration agent from the viewpoint of “like dissolves like” rule, and studies asphalt regeneration through recycled engine oil bottom on the basis of simulating thermal asphalt aging in laboratory.First, researchers simulated asphalt aging by oven heating and then added different proportions of wasted engine oil in asphalt samples that differed in aging time. Results showed that aged asphalt samples were regenerated to different extents when wasted engine oil was added.By comparing the performance(needle penetration, viscosity, ductility, and softening point)and composition changes of asphalt samples with different aging time and engine oil addition, this thesis determined the optimal choices for aging time and wasted oil addition after taking into consideration asphalt's aging degree and the cost. Then,a comparative conventional and specific analysis was presented regarding the performance of regenerated asphalt samples which containing 6%,7%,8% of REOB.Results of splitting test(indirect tensile test)showed that a certain dosage of recycled engine oil bottom could improve the ability of temperature susceptibility, rutting resistance, flow deformation resistance and elastic recovery performance of rejuvenated asphalt binders. In addition, the excessive addition of recycled engine oil bottom would reduce the rutting resistance, flow deformation resistance and elasticity of rejuvenated asphalt binders. However, low temperature flexibility, elasticity and thermostability of rejuvenated asphalt need to be further improved. Moreover, through decreasing asphaltenes content and intensity of carbonyl and sulfoxide index of aged asphalts,REOB has effect on regenerating aged asphalt, which makes it possible to REOB as a regenerator.
