In the year 2017,Digital Free Trade Zone(DFTZ)is the first digital free trade zone outside of China that launched by Malaysia and Alibaba Group in the year of 2017.It is expected to boost up Malaysia's e-Commerce roadmap. With the launch of DFTZ,Malaysia will serve as a regional e-fulfilment centre and regional hub for small and medium enterprises, marketplaces and provide more job opportunities. However,Malaysia does not have a deeply research on e-commerce warehouse management system.KACT1 warehouse that act as the first warehouse of pilot phase project in DFTZ is the subject to be study in this research.Pos Malaysia, which is a Malaysia owned post and delivery company has leased this facility from Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd.This research can help to determine what warehouse model or process flow schematic most suitable to apply in e-commerce warehouse for DFTZ.E-commerce warehouse operations have to cope with large fluctuations in customer order volumes and a large proportion of product returns. The primary goal of warehouse management is to track and control the movement and storage of product or materials within a warehouse, and process the associated inventory actions.Hence,a new and advanced warehouse management is needed. The most important knowledge to obtain is about the warehouse management and warehouse layout study. Some general information about types of warehouse model and way to manage flow of material in warehouse is reviewed.Besides that, this research was conducted to improve and optimize efficiency of warehouse work by designing the most suitable warehouse design.DFTZ is a plan that just launched not long ago. There are some information and research need to be done before starting to conduct the research. Some understanding about the business model of DFTZ is needed to know so that the warehouse can be designed according to needs of business. The future plan of DFTZ is proposed which will developed in the next 10 years. This future plan may has indirectly influences the layout design of warehouse.Basically, the basic layout of warehouse, like item flow planning, type of inspection adopted and type of inventory storage system put in service.Meanwhile, layout of inventory space in the warehouse will be designed so that collecting time or travel distance is small or economical when picking items. This layout must contains all working zone included place for receipting and receiving new stock of goods, inbound Inspection, unpacking area, storage, packing zone, dispatching or shipping area and office area. The arrangement of zones must follow the needs of material flow mode and provide enough storage space for inventory while still having enough working space for staff to move around and complete their tasks. The drawing of warehouse layout is done by Inkscape software. This drawing is saved in svg graphic format in 3 dimensions layout:top view, front view and side view. Also,it can clearly show that all working zones are distributed well in the warehouse.Result of rack arrangement in storage area is also done by the same software. The result included how many racks needed in the area, how tall the rack is suitable for the demand and so on.From there, find out the warehouse management system related problem that the warehouse operator facing. This was done by interview with the warehouse staff and through observation during the visit to the warehouse. The alternatives to solve and replace the old methods were discussed. This was the second objective of this research which is to optimize the performance of the warehouse.Just discussing the alternatives were not enough. The new method will need to adopt and run in a simulation software to prove that it can perform better than the old method.
