With improvement of people’s living standards,most cities have been troubled by traffic congestion.The intersection of urban roads has become the bottleneck of road network capacity,and the improvement of the operating efficiency of urban intersections is mainly achieved through the rational design of signal control in traffic signal control systems.An advanced and perfect traffic signal control system can make road users’ delays,parking rates,queue lengths and other evaluation indicators as small as possible,which increases the smooth level of urban roads.This paper introduces the basic functions of the road traffic signal control system,analyzing the deficiencies of the SCOOT system and the SCATS system in terms of effectiveness evaluation.A solution to evaluate the operating efficiency of a signal control system based on a road traffic microscopic simulation system is presented.For that the communication method and the data content of the real traffic signal controller and the control center were investigated,and it was confirmed that the communication method was Ethernet communication which based on the TCP/IP protocol.The main contents of the communication include the real-time running state of the signal,the detector data,and the remote command issued by the control center.In view of the characteristics of the traffic microscopic simulation system platform running on the Windows operating system,introducing the characteristics of the minimum unit process for system resource management on the Windows operating system,as well as the construction of a multi-threaded program.It is compared with the advantages and disadvantages of the pipeline methods,message queuing methods,and shared memory methods for data exchange between processes,and also made a comparison among the advantages and disadvantages of the mutual exclusion mode,event mode,and semaphore mode for achieving synchronously has access to shared resources among threads as well.Finally,exchanging the process of data between processes using the shared memory mode and having access to shared resources using the mutual exclusion mode are determined.In order to replace the real traffic signal controller,this paper should separate the signal control module in the process of the original microscopic simulation system,designing the process of a simulation traffic signal controller,realizing the function of multi-road signal control.This paper uses the Ethernet communication of TCP/IP protocol to realize the communication between the simulation traffic signal controller and the signal control system,and using the shared memory mode to realize the exchange of traffic light color signal information and vehicle testing information during in the simulation traffic signal controller and the traffic microscopic simulation system platform.Finally,this paper uses Visual C++ software programming to test the individual functions of the multi-road simulation traffic signal controller,at the same time,the signal state of the vehicle in the traffic microscopic simulation system platform was verified by using the signal program of the signal control system on the control center.
