With the rise of marine economy,China has ranked the top one in shipbuilding industry;however,we still need to recognize our weakness in ship accessory equipment industry.As an important navigational auxiliary equipment,ship navigation radar plays a more and more important role in targeting and navigation obstacle avoidance.Its display and control interface(hereinafter,the interface)is the direct medium of the interaction between the operator and radar system,which effects the operator's experience and also concerns the safety of the voyage.The existing domestic independent R & D navigation radar occupies far less market share than overseas brands,and the lack of consideration of visual experience in the design of the interface results in poor product availability,low customer satisfaction and other problems.Focusing on this issue,this paper will study the visual attention characteristics of operators in the process of radar surveillance,and summarize the design principles of the interface from the aspect of visual attention mechanism,so as to advance the original design to improve its visual experience and operation satisfaction.The main works are as following:First,this paper analyzes the visual system and attention process from the perspective of biology and cognitive psychology,and studies the visual attention characteristics of operating ship navigation radar surveillance.Second,after analyzing the visual attention mechanism,the paper puts forward the design principles for the interface based on visual attention mechanism.These principles include design guidance in six aspects which are icon,control,navigation,layout,color and interaction.What's more,the conventional interface design methods and processes are analyzed,and after weighing the advantages and disadvantages of various methods,a rapid design method for high fidelity interactive prototype of the interface is established based on Axure platform.Third,the basic function and operation flow of the interface are clarified by interview and research.And according to the design principles based on visual attention mechanism,the original design is optimized.After that,by using the Axure rapid prototyping method,the interactive prototype design of ship navigation radar display and control interface is accomplished.In the last part,the visual experience assessment of the interface designs before and after the optimization is conducted basing on TOPSIS,which verifies the effectiveness of the design method of ship navigation radar display and control interface based on visual attention mechanism.
