The 1920 s was a time of prosperity in the United States.The automobile industry has become one of the pillar industries of the United States in this period,and its sales and exports rank among the top in the world.The rapid development of American automobile industry has a far-reaching impact on the economy and society which is in the ascendant stage.Automobile not only improves the living standard and income level of American people,but also promotes the development of other industries in the United States.This thesis tries to explore the relationship between the advent of automobile industry and the national economy of the USA in the 1920 s,for exploring the development of automobile industry and social and economic changes,and providing historical reference for the advent of China’s automobile industry and upgrading of our industrial structure.This article has 4 chapters besides the introduction.The introduction part mainly explains the significance,framework of this topic.At the same time,it combs the research status at home and abroad and introduces the innovation and shortcomings.The main structure of this paper is as follows:The first chapter briefly introduces the historical background of American automobile industry in 1920 s.The 1920 s was an era of prosperity in the USA.After World War I,the United States made a lot of war money and became the world’s first economic power.In the era of rapid economic growth,the social life of the American people has changed,the people’s needs have been constantly increasing,and the living standards and requirements in all aspects,such as food,clothing,housing and transportation,have been greatly improved.Chapter two is about the new advent of American automobile industry in this 10 years.The automobile manufacturing industry played an important role in the economic life of the 1920 s.This chapter,from the perspective of output value and scale,uses a large number of statistical data to introduce the general situation of American automobile industry in 1920 s,and further elaborates the new development of automobile industry by analyzing the changes of Ford,General Motors and Chrysler.And briefly discusses the promotion of American automobile industry to other industries in 1920 s.Chapter three elaborates the industrial effect of automobile industry in 1920 s.The reason why the automobile industry has become a pillar of the economy is not only because the automobile industry itself has developed rapidly,large scale and large output value.More importantly,the development of the automobile industry has led to the emergence and development of a series of other industries.Starting from the perspective of the upstream and downstream industries of automobiles,this chapter elaborates one by one the impact of the American automobile industry on its upstream steel,oil,glass and rubber industries in the 1920 s and the promotion of its downstream services,advertising and radio industries by the automobile industry.Chapter four focuses on the impact of the automobile industry on the national economy of the United States in this period.The 1920 s is a well-known period of American economic prosperity.The automobile industry is considered as one of the two pillars of American economic prosperity.The development of the automobile industry has an important impact on the rise and fall of American economy.This chapter first talks about the data,starting from four aspects of consumption,investment,net exports and government expenditure,and then analyses in detail the impact of the automobile industry on the GDP of the United States.Then it focuses on the promotion and positive role of the automobile industry in the transportation industry,which constitutes an important part of the national economy.Finally,from the aspects of advanced consumption,gap between rich and poor,unbalanced industrial structure and so on,the negative effects of automobiles on American economy in this period are discussed.
