| Klang River is one of the dirtiest and most polluted river in Malaysia.Pollution happened is due to human factor where industrial and residential discharged wastes to river,improper sewage treatment,land development and soil erosion.This pollution affected quality of public life and at the same time endangered public health as well.To overcome this problem,government decided to transform Klang River into a better place.However,cooperation of public is crucial for achieving the goal.Residents stay along Klang River play vital roles in this transformation project.Thus,the research objectives were to study the residents’satisfaction towards the transformation of Klang River and develop strategies to improve residents’ satisfaction in the transformation of Klang River in Klang district.The research was implemented a mixed research method,both qualitative and quantitative data were collected.Qualitative data were collected through structured interview with two experienced government officers from Town Planning Department.Content analysis was used to analyse the entire database to identify the information presented.Quantitative data were collected by distributing questionnaires to the residents from ten villages along Klang River.The data was analysed by using SPSS software.Finding showed that residents still dissatisfied with the transformation of Klang River in the aspect of river water quality,recreation uses,and flood protection.Strategies to improve residents’ satisfaction in the aspect of flood protection,cleanliness of environment,ecological condition,economy,value and aesthetics,accessibility,facility and amenities were developed by integrating of residents’ satisfaction and government’s development concepts in this river restoration project.In conclusion,this research can be a reference for local government to transform Klang River into a better place for public. |
