At present, river deterioration has been already accepted as a global environment problem and been widely concerned by the international society. Along with the enhancement of environment consciousness, ecological awareness and the improvement of living standards, the society's request to restore the river's disturbed ecosystems has become more and more urgent. Many practice in countries tell us that the combination of the hydraulic engineering and zoology is the important development trend for future river training work. The water resources development of our country is also making for the new stage just from traditional "the engineering water resources"to "the ecosystem water resources"and "the environment water resources". The deterioration of river ecosystems affect seriously the sustainable use of water resources and river exploitation. River restoration has become an important task in the ecological conservation strategies. This dissertation analyses and studies the common problems that domestic and overseas rivers are facing, and summarizes the foreign experiences in river restoration. At the same time, it sums up roundly river ecosystems. It elaborates the principle, dimensions, target and the evaluation methods of river restoration. Based on these, a series of conceptual models of river restoration that is suitable for our country are established. The model, which is based on river's four-dimensional model, expatiates horizontally and lengthways the theoretics and methods of river restoration, separately, and consequently, it guides programming and design of river restoration projects. The planning design of a project are implemented based on above mentioned conceptual models. The result indicates that the conceptual models put forward in this thesis establishes are reasonable and practical, and can be a reference in practice of other river restoration projects.
