Buddhism was introduced into China from India,it effectively integrated with the local Chinese architectural arts and the architectural techniques of various dynasties,resulting in the buddhist architecture with unique forms and rich types——the ancient buddhist pagoda.The combination of ancient buddhist pagodas and Chinese pavilions is the highest building in China’s ancient architectural system.The number and variety of ancient buddhist pagodas can represent the highest achievement of China’s ancient architectural art.The ancient buddhist pagoda comes from Buddhism and is the incarnation of Buddha.It is also an important building and landscape in the gardens of buddhist temples.Jiangnan area has been a region with strong cultural accumulation since ancient times.With beautiful scenery,it is the best environment for the construction of ancient buddhist pagodas.The construction of ancient buddhist pagodas is very active.The ancient buddhist pagodas in the jiangnan area are all over the mountains,forests and alleys,which can not only mark the orientation of the buddhist temple and guide people,but also serve as the beautiful scenery of the soil and water as well as the landscape features for people to enjoy.It is not only the result of the development and creation of ancient Chinese architectural art,but also a reflection of the history of regional development.It plays an important role in the study of ancient Chinese architecture and buddhist architecture.Under the background of the accelerated development of urbanization,the demolition of the old and the construction of the new are common,and the traditional gardens are facing an unprecedented crisis.Therefore,a systematic study on the artistic characteristics of ancient buddhist pagodas in the south of the Yangtze river is of great practical significance for the protection of the architectural heritage of ancient buddhist pagodas in the contemporary era and for the inheritance and development of regional cultural landscape arts.This article main content will be collated by remaining in the southern region of the pagoda,represented by the largest number of Ming and qing dynasties,based on the analysis of ancient and modern literatures and field survey and interview information,on the basis of the historical development of the jiangnan ancient pagodas,environmental art,the single building,humanism aesthetics,to carry on the analysis,put forward the protection,inheritance and development of the ancient pagoda problems such as advice.In this paper,representative buddhist pagodas are investigated and deeply studied from the aspects of environmental art,architectural characteristics,construction technology,structural characteristics,historical and humanistic values,in the hope of providing a valuable data for the study,management and protection of ancient buddhist pagodas in China,and exploring a new way of protection and development for existing buddhist pagodas.
