Research On The Impact Of High-Speed Rail Accessibility On Economy Of Guangdong Province

In recent years,China has invested heavily in high-speed rail construction.The most direct effect of high-speed rail is greatly compressing the spatiotemporal distance between regions,improving the level of accessibility between regions so that the flow of production factors is speeded up between regions.So,high-speed rail construction directly improves the level of accessibility.Will it significantly affect the economic development of Guangdong Province? The following three key issues are putted forward to be verified:(1)What is the impact of highspeed rail on the level of accessibility in Guangdong Province?(2)Whether accessibility significantly affects the overall economy of Guangdong Province?(3)Is there any difference about the impact of accessibility level on three industries in Guangdong Province? So,the following research work is carried out:(1)Firstly,2006 year,2010 year and 2017 year are selected as the representative years when the high-speed railway in Guangdong Province was not opened,the early stage of the opening and the perfect stage of high-speed rail construction.The spatiotemporal characteristics of accessibility are analyzed which is impacted by highspeed rail in Guangdong Province in the three years.(2)Then GDP per capita,three industrial output value and tourism income macroeconomic data are regarded as the indexes to measure the degree of economic development in Guangdong Province.The influence mechanism of accessibility level on these indexes is analyzed.(3)Based on accessibility panel data that is between 2006 and 2017 years,panel regression model is constructed for empirical researching on the impact of accessibility on per capita GDP,three industrial output value and tourism income in Guangdong Province.(4)Finally,some suggestions are given for the results of the above analysis and research.The main conclusions of the study are as follows:(1)In the terms of the spatiotemporal characteristics of accessibility,high-speed rail promotes the provincial and interprovincial accessibility improving greatly in Guangdong Province generally.The level of accessibility in the province improves by about 2 hours,and the level of inter-provincial accessibility improves by about 16 hours from 2006 to 2017.The improvement of interprovincial accessibility is greater than provincial accessibility.The spatial distribution of the accessibility of the four regions in Guangdong Province shows that the level of accessibility in the Pearl River Delta Region and Northern Guangdong is higher,and the Pearl River Delta Region is the highest,the level of accessibility in the Eastern Guangdong and Western Guangdong is lower.The distribution of accessibility level between cities in the Pearl River Delta Region and the Eastern Guangdong is more balanced,and the distribution of accessibility level in the Eastern Guangdong and the Western Guangdong is unbalanced.(2)Accessibility has a significantly positive impact on per capita GDP,three industrial output value and tourism income in Guangdong Province.The level of accessibility is higher,the economic in Guangdong Province develops faster.(3)High-speed rail operates passenger transport business,it mainly improves the level of accessibility in passenger transport.In terms of three industries,The improvement of the accessibility level of high-speed rail has the greatest effect on the development of the tertiary industry.Some conclusions in this paper have important practical significance for the construction of economic circle in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in future.
