In this paper, typical low-pressure cast aluminum alloy wheels were taken as the research object.Use the method of the combination of biaxial fatigue test and finite element simulation.Analyze the biaxial fatigue performance and structure of the wheel from the aspects of material structure, mechanical property, reliability test and finite element simulation. Some suggestions on the improvement of wheel structure were put forward.Qualified wheels were produced by low-pressure casting, and their structure and mechanical properties were analyzed.According to the biaxial fatigue test method, the selected test wheels were tested by dynamic preloading and static preloading on the inner rim of the wheel, which simulated and reproduced the inner rim damage of the car wheels after passing through potholes, bumps or obstacles. The data of wheel failure life and fatigue crack were obtained by simulating the wheel road test with the biaxial fatigue test method. The results show that static preloading treatment is equivalent to the pre-damage condition of wheel rim.The number 1 wheel is defined as an abnormal failure wheel. And the number 2 wheel is defined as an normal failure wheel. The failure position of the abnormal failure wheel in the test was analyzed and it was found that the oxidized slag foreign body and microstructure heterogeneity at the wheel rim position were the main cause of the abnormal fatigue failure.By finite element analysis, the simulation analysis of biaxial fatigue test is carried out,and the results of test analysis and simulation analysis are compared. The results show that the joint of hub and spokes is the stress concentration point and the location of fatigue fracture. It is found that the pre-deformation position of inner wheel rim is the stress concentration position through the strain measurement and calculation during the biaxial fatigue test.It is indicated that when the wheels pre-deformed in inner rim are undergoing biaxial fatigue test, the position becomes the stress release point, and the failure finally occurs.Radial impact test and finite element analysis were used to verify that the inner rim of the wheel was the thin weakness of the wheel structure, and some suggestions were proposed for structural optimization.
