Research On The Influence Of Laotse Philosophy On Wright’s Organic Architectural Design

The dialectical design thinking and the spirit of innovation advocated by Frank Lloyd Wright,the pioneer of modernism,have played a guiding role for many younger designers.Wright’s success lies in: emphasizing the shaping of space and spiritual construction,as well as the concept of sustainable development of artificial and natural symbiosis,subverting the traditional design of the solidified geometric space of the West and neglecting the natural map to restrict the world.This study finds from Wright’s self-report from Wright: Wright mentioned that the philosophical views in Laotse’s 《Tao Te Ching》and his own organic architectural design theory have resonated across time and space.This article uses this as a clue to integrate and interpret Wright’s life,thoughts and works by means of literature collection,comparative analysis and empirical research.By combing the historical origins between Wright and Eastern culture,it was found that Japanese art only influenced Wright’s early construction and layout,while Laozi philosophy and Chinese classical architecture were subversive new inspirations for Wright’s organic design thought.This thesis is divided into five chapters: The first chapter,most of the existing research focuses on the relationship between Wright and Japanese art,and the relationship between Wright’s dialectical design thinking and Laotse philosophy and Chinese architecture.It has not been widely recognized and explored in depth.The second chapter,through a large number of literature research,compares the differences between Wright and other masters in the same period,and sorts out the changes of Wright’s own design philosophy,and finds Wright design.Several important turning points in your career.Then combing these historical turning points in Wright’s life experience,it traces back to the historical evidence that Laotse philosophy has an important influence on Wright’s organic thoughts.The third chapter is that the classical classical architecture and the western classical architecture are essentially different.The difference is the cause of these differences.Laotse’s philosophy is widely radiated,and it has a profound impact on the classical architecture and gardens of China and Japan.Wright found a way to realize organic design ideas in this;the fourth chapter interprets the viewpoints of Wright’s organic architecture theory and Laotse’s philosophical thoughts,and analyzes the spatial and environmental processing methods in Wright’s architectural case.The application reference of contemporary architectural design;the fifth chapter,hopes to provide a new perspective for the understanding of the contemporary architectural design to absorb the essence of Laotse philosophy and practice organic design methods,and to look forward to the future architectural design direction of the nation.In summary,I hope that this study can systematically rigorate the exchanges between Chinese and Western architectural theories through the case of Laotse and Wright.And taking Laotse philosophy as the starting point,deeply understanding and digesting Wright’s organic architectural design ideas,finding a new way to integrate Chinese traditional philosophical thoughts with modern design,The new way out provides a reference for how China’s development "Re-use of the excellent culture and respects the past".
