With the rapid development of global urbanization, urban residents are generally plagued by chronic diseases, stress and other problems caused by high-intensity work.Survival pressure has generally caused residents to enter the green environment to seek relief. However, most of the existing urban green space environment can not meet the rehabilitative needs of inhabitants. Therefore, studying the rehabilitation effects and influencing factors of urban forest on the physical and mental health of inhabitants will help to design and construct the future urban forest restoration environment in China to improve the quality of life of urban residents.Based on Kaplan’s Attention Restoration Theory(ART)and Ulrich’s Stress Reduction Theory, this thesis studied the healing effects of forest landscape from the aspects of individual physiology and mental health. This study used virtual reality technology to perceive the environment through VR glasses.According to the horizontal structure of the vegetation(the coverage of the tree crown),the urban forests were divided into three types of spatial structure: open forest,partly-closed forest, closed forest, and two groups of control groups, urban road and indoor environment, were set up to compare the difference of recovery effect of different forest landscape structure spaces on individual health under the urban background of China. This study addressed the following three issues:1)Can forest landscape bring health benefits to stressed people?2)Differences in recovery effect between physical and mental health of stressed populations in different types of urban forests.3)Factors affecting the recovery of physical and mental health of stressed people in different forest landscape structures. The main findings are as follows:1)The restoration of individual mental health by forest landscape had a significant positive impacts on perception recovery, attention level and emotion. In addition,it was generally higher than the recovery effect of indoor environment and urban road environment. In the aspect of physiological recovery,it was found that environmental changes did not influence the recovery of individual physiological health. After stopping the pressure intervention, the frequency of α waves in all environments was significantly improved.2)The partly-closed forests had the best recovery effect on individual physiological and mental health. It was also the environment with the highest tourist preference and the strongest willingness to recreation. The second was the open and closed forests.3)There was a significant positive correlation between preferences, recreational willingness and environmental recovery, and the recovery effect of environment on women was more effective than men.It is suggested that the number and area of urban forest parks should be increased in the future construction of China’s restoration environment. In addition, the number of partly-closed forest should be increased on the basis of reasonable plant collocation. Before the planning and design of urban forest parks, the preferences of the target tourist groups should be fully investigated, especially in areas where the tourist groups have particularities. For example, the number of dense forests should be minimized in areas with large female tourist groups.
