Study In Development Strategy Of The Djibouti Container Terminal(DCT)

With the deepening of world economic integration and trade liberalization.As an amphibious transportation hub,the port is increasingly competitive and its strategic position in logistics is increasingly strengthened.Djibouti,a country on the northeast coast of Africa,is the Silk Road relay station of the "Horn of Africa".It is a maritime transportation and trade hub linking Europe,Asia and Africa.It is an important node on the global trade routes.Its strategic geographical position is prominent and its hinterland has obvious economic advantages.Djibouti can become a gateway not only to Ethiopia,but also to South Sudan,Somalia and the Great Lakes countries(including Uganda,Rwanda,Burundi and other countries around the East African Rift Valley).Djibouti port is a free port in the Republic of Djibouti in East Africa and a transit port in Ethiopia.Located on the southeast coast of Djibouti,at the entrance to the southern bank of the Gulf of Tadjourah,on the southwest side of the Gulf of Aden,it is Djibouti's largest seaport and one of the largest modern ports in East Africa.Ports are Djibouti's most precious assets.More than 80%of Djibouti's GDP comes from ports and related industries.Since China put forward the "the belt and road initiative" initiative,China's investment in Djibouti has exceeded 14 billion Yuan.In early 2013,China merchants took a stake in Djibouti port co,Ltd.while improving the management level of Djibouti port in an all-round way,China merchants' international co.Ltd is building Djibouti into a regional shipping center,logistics center and trade center,and is building Djibouti into a "portal of east Africa"by giving full play to Djibouti's geographical advantages and replicating the portal comprehensive development model of "former port-central region-back city".Through the research and planning of the port development strategy,we can give full play to the port's resource advantages and location advantages,and can further adapt to the new requirements of the port's economic and social development.Djibouti port is the largest port in Djibouti,and its development is of great significance to Djibouti and even the East African regional economic circle.Djibouti container terminal(hereinafter referred to as DCT)is a very important part of Djibouti port.At the same time,container transportation is intensive and large-scale,with relatively low cost and freight costs.Standardized operation,high efficiency,good sealing of containers,ensuring the safety of cargo transportation,low breakage rate,good transportation quality,container operation,liner mode and relatively stable shipping period have become the main modes of maritime transportation.Therefore,it is particularly important to formulate the development strategy of Djibouti container terminal and implement it effectively.Based on the actual situation of Djibouti container terminal,combined with the relevant theoretical knowledge of port logistics and the current research situation of port logistics,this paper makes corresponding strategic analysis on the development of Djibouti container terminal.The thesis is divided into six parts:(1)The first part is the introduction,which first explains the background,expounds the development of container transportation in recent years,the trade situation and competition in East Africa,and reviews the previous studies.This paper discusses the research content and thinking of this article.After China Merchants Holding International bought shares in Djibouti Port,this move profoundly changed the industrial outlook of Djibouti Port and made Djibouti a regional logistics hub.Therefore,it points out the necessity of the research on DCT development strategy and its reference value to other ports,and then describes DCT ports,including social,economic,financial and legal aspects.(2)The second part introduces the interests and strategic position of DCT port.As the main port of Djibouti port,it is located along the Red Sea coast and near the Gulf of Aden,with a superior position.Then,it introduces the specific characteristics of DCT terminal:first,it has huge capacity and storage capacity.The terminal is 2,000 meters long and can provide 18-20 meters draught for the latest container ships.70 hectares of loading and unloading area and 6 gantries.Another 700,000 square meters of storage area;Having the most advanced port infrastructure and achieving the following three basic goals:becoming a natural export in the Red Sea region;serving as a berthing or anchoring service station for ships sailing in this area;Become a logistics hub and distribution point for maritime traffic in the region;With strong regional control strength and relying on its location advantages,it aims to become the main shipping center in the region and is committed to providing various services to customers.Perfect department setup,including staffing,port operations,parking lot operation and management,technical maintenance services and import and export voucher processing.(3)The third part makes SWOT analysis on the existing internal and external environment of DCT.Firstly,the development of Djibouti port is analyzed.Through the opening of the railway between Djibouti and Addis Ababa,it is expected to develop into Africa's largest free trade area.The opening of a natural gas pipeline between Ethiopia and Djibouti will bring more opportunities.The convenience of transportation will make domestic and foreign trade more prosperous.Then it analyzes the environmental factors,introduces Djibouti's military base and the structure of domestic trade,which accounts for a large proportion of port activities through transshipment and re-export.At last,the advantages of DCT port development and the problems encountered in its development are analyzed,such as imperfect tariff and marketing policies,uneven personnel quality and insufficient economic diversification.(4)The fourth part forecasts the throughput of Djibouti container port.Because the throughput of the port is closely related to the economic development of the port,the amount of throughput determines the formulation of the strategy to a large extent.Therefore,regression prediction model,grey prediction model,cubic exponential smoothing prediction model and combination prediction model are used to predict the throughput of the port.The final result is obtained regression linear model.(5)The fifth part is the safeguard measures for DCT port strategy.Based on accurate and reliable data and currently available resources,this part describes from three aspects:improving the policy system,strengthening the infrastructure and improving the service system,which can make Djibouti port stand out from the competition among many ports.(6)The sixth part is the research conclusion.This part draws the research conclusion on the basis of summarizing the previous part and looks forward to the future.The conclusion of this paper is:due to the special geographical location of Djibouti port,Djibouti is expected to become a trade gateway for East African countries.With the slow rise of sea level,Djibouti may be able to berth 28,000TEU of large container ships;no matter from the economic or military point of view,Djibouti port will receive more investment from international partners in the future,which will greatly change the overall situation inside the port.The high efficiency and intensification of containers will not only drive the development of ports,but also reduce the transportation costs of shipping enterprises.According to the forecast results of port throughput,the throughput of DCT terminals will show an increasing trend in the next few years,which will at the same time,reflect that it will drive the increase of GDP,promote the development of the whole economy on the basis of ports,and give full play to the advantages of ports.There will be great development space for Djibouti port in the future,which will create more value and more job opportunities for the country.
