Global value chain(GVC)is essentially a dynamic production process, that is,the whole process from product conception, raw material procurement and transportation,to the production and trade of intermediate product’s,re processing,to the production, consumption and recycling of final products. As a typical technology intensive industry, technology progress is an important standard to measure its development. As an important part of "made in China 2025" strategy,China’s automobile industry has made great progress in technology after many years of investment promotion, and China’s automobile market is gradually institutionalized and improved, but generally speaking,it still lacks core competitiveness. Therefore, how to better promote the continuous technological progress of China’s automobile industry in the future, and then enhance its core competitiveness has important practical significance. In view of this, based on the 2000-2018 China automobile industry yearbook and the database of China Automobile Association, based on GVC trade theory, this paper carries out the following research.First of all, this paper reviews the research on the impact of embedded GVC on industrial technology progress, and divides this impact into three aspects:impact effect, impact path and embedding location. In the vertical, the judgment of domestic and foreign scholars on this impact is divided into two aspects:positive and negative.Based on the literature analysis, this paper uses the previous "general equilibrium theory model" for reference, analyzes the influence mechanism of embedded GVC on industrial technology progress from the theoretical level, and obtains two propositional hypotheses through the derivation of this model.Through the derivation of theoretical model, this paper expounds the mechanism of embedded GVC influencing industrial technology progress from both positive and negative aspects.Secondly,in order to verify the internal mechanism of GVC affecting industrial technology progress, this paper makes a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the development status of China’s automobile industry embedded in GVC.On the one hand, based on the relevant data indicators of the reference industry yearbook, this paper makes a position judgment of embedding GVC in China’s automobile industry. On the other hand, this paper makes a quantitative judgment on the development of China’s automobile industry from the perspectives of technology introduction, independent R&D and market development. In order to further verify the proposition hypothesis proposed above, this paper uses DEA Malmquist index method to measure the TFP of China’s automobile industry in the whole industry and five sub industries 2000-2018,and finds that the TFP of China’s automobile industry in the whole industry and each micro industry shows a trend of fluctuation and upward trend. On the basis of TFP measurement, this paper further empirically tests the VSS index,R&D investment and human capital of China’s automobile industry. The empirical results show that, firstly, the influence of GVC embedded in China’s automobile industry on technological progress shows an inverted U-shaped relationship.Secondly, this paper introduces the coefficient of interaction term of key variables to test, which confirms the two propositional hypotheses proposed in the second chapter. In addition,in order to verify the impact of embedded GVC on the heterogeneity of China’s automobile industry, this paper also tests the five sub industries of the automobile industry by industry estimation. Finally, based on the above empirical analysis and research, this paper puts forward countermeasures and suggestions to promote the technological progress of China’s automobile industry from the perspective of GVC,including improving the allocation of industrial human capital, enhancing the ability of independent research and development, accelerating the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure and stepping out of the "low-end locking"trap.
