The Internet of Things is expected to play a fundamental role in a wide range of application fields.Intelligent Transportation Systems are among the most promising application domains,being inherently large-scale and composed by heterogeneous systems.In this paper we present the Middleware for Transportation System,a software capable of supporting standard Machine-to-Machine(M2M)communication,while tackling with the dynamic nature of resource-constrained devices and networks.The RESTFUL interface of the M2M Middleware provides a way to dynamically reconfigure distributed sensing applications,while the support for in-network aggregation guarantees an efficient utilization of network resources.The Internet of Things(IoT)envisages overall merging of several "Things" while utilizing Internet as the backbone of the communication system to establish a smart interaction between people and surrounding objects.IoT has increasingly gained attention in industry to interact with different types of devices.This popularity cause a demand to use IoT vision for different types of device.While each type of devices can support its own communication protocol and required data to provide data for each interaction.The solution that has introduced in the literatures is designing a middleware layer between the devices and the user of the IoT-based Transportation system.The concept of intelligent transportation has been accepted by society and has been applied widely.At the same time,the problems of the intelligent transportation are emerging and the Internet of Things(IoT)provides a new direction for its development.This article first analyzed the concept of IoT,key technologies and system architecture,and then researched the demands of transportation system function to put forward the structure of overall function of the transportation system based on IoT.The Internet of Things connects everyday objects including a vast array of sensors,actuators,and smart devices,referred to as "Things" to the Internet,in an intelligent and pervasive fashion.In this research,we investigate on designing a middleware for an IoT based on transportation system.The configuration and deployment can be facilitated by providing a homogeneous Graphical User Interface(UI)to interact with different types of mobile devices in a uniform way.This thesis project explores the transportation system.It explores the use of a mobile phone as a gateway to connect wireless devices with short range of radio links to the Internet in order to foster an Internet of Things(IoT).In this paper,we first motivate the need for an IoT middleware via an IoT application.To fill this gap,a middleware,referred to as the Internet of Things Management Platform(IoT-MP)is proposed in this paper.Further,few challenges are also described that the researchers should take on in near future.Ultimately,the goal of this article is to provide detailed knowledge about the existing middleware for transportation system based on IoT.
