Study On The Characteristic Of "Exotic And Practical" Architecture In Lingnan Under The Influence Of Regional Culture

Lingnan architecture is the material component of Lingnan culture and a phenomenon of Lingnan regional culture.Other than that,Lingnan architecture is also a combination of technology and art,which makes it necessary to meet people's practical and aesthetic needs.However,in terms of the current domestic research situation,on one hand,the academic research on the "practicability" of Lingnan architecture is mainly based on the four cultural characteristics of "compatibility,pragmatism,secularity and innovation" of Lingnan culture,while the inherent "exotic" and "exotic and practical" cultural characteristics of Lingnan culture have not been paid attention to,not to mention the inevitable creation of some "exotic" architectural forms in the process of innovation and flexibility.On the other hand,the research on the aesthetic attribute of Lingnan architecture is mostly from the perspective of "beauty",which ignores the existence of "grotesque" in aesthetics in ancient China,and there is no comprehensive and unified understanding of the academic character between the "exotic" in Lingnan architecture aesthetics and the "practical" in function.Therefore,in the hope of making contributions to supplementing and improving the research system of Lingnan architecture,Lingnan aesthetics and art,and to help providing a theoretical basis for the innovation and practice of contemporary Lingnan architecture,this paper dedicates to make a systematic analysis of the characteristics and concrete forms of the characteristic of "exotic and practical" in Lingnan architecture under the influence of regional culture.First of all,the second chapter takes the regional culture as the background,and tries to analyze the specific causes of the "exotic and practical" characteristic of Lingnan architecture and its architectural performance from the three perspectives of natural environment,political economy and cultural environment.Secondly,from the third to the fifth chapter,this paper analyzes the specific performance and internal law of Lingnan architecture's "exotic and practical" characteristics in Lingnan traditional architecture,Lingnan western architecture,and Lingnan garden architecture,based on the building type,plane layout,building image,building details and building decoration.In regards of the fact that the concept of "exotice" is quite relative,different types of buildings are influenced by different dominant cultures,and have different reference objects of the so called "exotic".Therefore,the methods of the horizontal and vertical comparison are often used in the case study in order to clarify the reference of the concept of "exotice",and then specifically analyze where,why and what's the effect of the characteristics of "exotic" in Lingnan architecture.In the third chapter,taking temple architecture,ancestral temple architecture and Kaiping blockhouse as examples,it is pointed out that the traditional architecture in Lingnan is dominated by Chinese traditional culture,and its "exotic and practical" features are mainly local innovation and comprehensive innovation;In the fourth chapter,taking the “Shi San Hang” as well as the settlement buildings in Shamian,and the modern church school buildings in Guangzhou as examples,it is pointed out that the western architecture in Lingnan is dominated by the western patriarchal culture,and its "exotic and practical" features are mainly classical alienation and the mixture of Chinese and Western cultures;In the fifth chapter,taking Lingnan Garden Architecture and commercial garden architecture as examples,it is pointed out that Lingnan Garden Architecture is dominated by Chinese traditional culture,influenced by Chinese traditional culture,Lingnan original culture and Western foreign culture,and its "exotic and practical" characteristics are mainly manifested in multiple integration and pragmatic nature.In conclusion,this paper proposes that Lingnan architecture has the dual unity of "exotic and practical",which is mainly manifested by flexible handling methods and practical design principles.Among them,the flexible handling methods reflect the unconstrained and applicable sense of change.Under the guidance of the practical principle,Lingnan architecture does not deliberately pursue the purity of design techniques,does not need to follow non-profit standards and norms,and does not care too much about the coordination between the introduced heterogeneous elements and other parts of the building.Therefore,Lingnan architecture often creates some unconventional architectural types,informal plane layout,eclectic "mix and match" architectural image,exaggerated and deformed architectural details,secular function architectural decoration and so on,presenting the aesthetic expression of "greatly different and interesting" compared with the mainstream and standard methods of this type of architecture.Here,"exotic" is an aesthetic form that adapts to the practicality of architecture and is different from the traditional aesthetic standards.It is a non-mainstream and innovative form of creation.The concept of "exotic and practical" is not only an innovative aesthetics,but also an innovative technique.
