In the highway transportation system, the roadside landscape is an important factor that cannot be ignored and has an important impact on ensuring the safety of traffic. In the semidesertified region of northwest China, deserts and micro-hills are the main areas in the region. The terrain is undulating, and the alignment of the highway is good, but it also brings the monotony of the roadside landscape.Monotonous roadside landscape is a key factor that induces driver fatigue driving in highways in semi-desertified areas, which directly affects the driving safety of highways. Therefore,it is of great engineering significance to study the influence of roadside landscapes of highways on driving fatigue in semi-desert regions. In order to solve the fatigue driving problem of highway in semi-desertification region, this paper uses cluster analysis technology to classify the degree of driving fatigue, analyze the evolution law of driving fatigue in semi-desertification region, and proposes a quantization method of roadside landscape based on sky ratio using image recognition technology to solve the quantization problem of roadside landscape. On this basis, the influence of roadside landscape on driving fatigue is analyzed, and the evaluation method and improvement measures for monotonous roadside landscape in semi-desertification region are proposed.(1)Based on the clustering technique, this paper graded the degree of driving fatigue and analyzed the evolution of driving fatigue under traffic conditions in semi-desertification regions. The results showed that the degree of driver fatigue gradually increased with driving time, and the degree of fatigue reached by drivers varied in different test sections;however, the degree of driver fatigue did not remain constant, but was changing under the influence of external information and self-regulation by drivers.(2)For the characteristics of roadside landscape in the semi-desertification region, the sky ratio in the driving video is identified as the quantified index of roadside landscape, and the method of quantifying roadside landscape based on the sky ratio is proposed by image recognition technology. The method of defining the roadside landscape stimulus is proposed by combining the change of sky ratio between the driving images, and the intensity of the roadside landscape stimulus is divided into three intensity levels based on the change of sky ratio using cluster analysis technique.(3)The effect of roadside landscape on driving fatigue was analyzed by combining heart rate data and roadside landscape stimulus data. The results showed that when the frequency of the landscape stimulation was at least 3 times/minute or the intensity of the landscape stimulation was at least 4 levels/minute,the landscape stimulation could stimulate the driver's central nervous system to slow down the process of fatigue accumulation. The cumulative effect of the monotonous length of roadside landscape on driving fatigue was analyzed, and the critical length of monotonous roadside landscape was determined as a 6-minute driving journey. Finally, the evaluation method and improvement measures of the monotonous landscape roadside in semi-desertification region are proposed with examples. The main research results obtained in this study provide a reference for improving the fatigue driving problem caused by the monotonous landscape on highways in semidesertification regions.
