A Study Of Chinese Elements In The Work Of Contemporary Japanese Architects In China

Under the background of globalization,more and more foreign architects enter China for architectural design and related activities,and the status of Chinese national culture in architecture has been impacted.It is urgent for Chinese architects to create modern architecture with Chinese characteristics.Among the foreign architects,the Japanese architects represented by Kengo Kuma are an important part of them.The Japanese architectural culture represented by Japanese architects is closely related to that of China,and some Japanese architects will actively integrate into the Chinese architectural environment by presenting Chinese elements in their architectural creation in China.Their creation methods are worthy of study by Chinese architects.This paper selects the works created by Kengo Kuma in China to express Chinese elements,and studies the extraction,processing and expression of Chinese elements in the works.Firstly,from Kengo Kuma's own architectural design theory,this paper studies the historical background of his design theory,its development history and its relationship with Japanese traditional culture.Secondly,the characteristics of their works and the expression of Chinese elements are analyzed by taking contemporary Japanese architects who practice architecture in China as the objects.Furthermore,in combination with Kengo Kuma's design theory and method,this paper analyzes the exploration of Chinese elements in his works in China in the aspects of monomer building composition,building layout and building materials,and summarizes the characteristics of his works.At the same time,combined with the results of the questionnaire to evaluate its element expression.Based on the similarities and differences between Chinese and Japanese architectural cultures,and the interpretation of contemporary Chinese architects' works expressing the same Chinese elements,this paper further analyzes and evaluates the pros and cons of Kengo Kuma's works expressing Chinese elements.In the end,this paper makes an analysis of Kengo Kuma's expression of Chinese elements and tries to explain the inheritance of Chinese contemporary architecture to traditional culture.After analyzing and comparing the characteristics of Chinese element expression of different research objects,this paper summarizes the creativity and limitations of Chinese element expression of contemporary Japanese architects represented by Kengo Kuma.At last,it concludes the expression direction of Chinese elements in contemporary architecture.Through analysis,Kengo Kuma's expression of Chinese elements is rarely tried by Chinese architects,which has a good reference.But at the same time,Kengo Kuma's expression of Chinese elements is based on his mature design theories and methods,which makes his expression of Chinese elements become formalized and lacking in depth.Therefore,Kengo Kuma should be critical of the expression of Chinese elements.
