With the development of China's metropolises and urban agglomerations, the scale of the construction of regional transit lines is expanding. The regional rail transit is an important traffic corridor between the urban area and the suburbs, its line mileage is always long and the station spacings are usually large, and the distribution of passenger flow is uneven. Therefore, its characteristic operating mode is yet to be studied in depth. The station-stop with single route mode is commonly used in the urban rail transit in China, which is difficult to meet the rapid travel needs of passengers, and may cause the supply-demand matching unbalance. In order to meet diverse travel needs and save enterprise operating costs,it is of great significance to study the operation plan of the Express-Local combined with Multi-Routing mode in regional rail transit. This paper summarizes the basic conditions for operating the Express-Local combined with Multi-Routing mode in the regional rail transit. The optimization model of the Express-Local combined with Multi-Routing of the regional transit considering passenger travel behavior is established and conducted in a case. The main research and conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)The applicability of the Multi-Routing mode and the Express-Local mode for the regional transit is analyzed from four aspects of passenger flow characteristics, line conditions, service level and operating costs.Based on the diversified travel needs of the regional rail transit,a flexible operation mode of Express-Local with Multi-Routing is proposed. And the optimization methods and principles of the operation plan of Express-Local with Multi-Routing are proposed.(2)A travel space-time network under the conditions of the Express-Local combined with Multi-Routing operation is built to quantitatively study the path selection behavior of various passengers at different arrival stages.Passengers are classified based on their outsets and destinations, and a variety of passenger travel route alternative sets are given.A generalized travel cost function is constructed by assuming that passengers fully understand the arrival information of the current and subsequent trains and considering the difference in travel time perception. The improved path search algorithm based on backtracking traversal is used to search for effective paths in the travel space-time network, and the Logit model is used to calculate path probability, then the path probability is modified based on the number of stays.(3)The operation plan optimization model of the overtaking and non-overtaking Express-Local combined with Multi-Routing are established, and the solution algorithm based on genetic-simulated annealing are designed. In order to construct a more refined operation plan optimization model of the Express-Local combined with Multi-Routing,the non-equilibrium departure interval and related time parameters are discussed, and passenger's behavior including selection, transfer, and detention are carefully described. An operation plan optimization model of the non-overtaking Express-Local with Multi-Routing mode is constructed, with the goal of minimizing passenger travel time and corporate operating costs. The constraints include departure frequency, service level,supply-demand matching relationship, departure time interval,load-rate,turnover capacity.Further analyzing the process and constraints of the express train overtaking, the operation plan optimization model of the overtaking Express-Local with Multi-Routing mode is constructed. The algorithms for solving the operating plan optimization model of the Express-Local combined with Multi-Routing in two modes are designed based on the principle of genetic-simulated annealing algorithm.(4)Taking Tianjin Metro Line M9 to verify the effectiveness of the optimization models and solving algorithms. The results of the solution show that the overtaking operating plan is slightly better than the non-overtaking operating plan, which can save 0.3% of passenger travel hours and 2.0% of enterprise variable operating costs. The comparison of the operational effects among the Express-Local combined with Multi-Routing mode,station-stop with single route mode,nested-route mode and Express-Local mode, which verified that the Express-Local combined with Multi-Routing mode can save passengers travel time and operating cost.(5)The passenger adaptability of the Express-Local combined with Multi-Routing mode was studied, and it was concluded that: 1)When the proportion of passenger flow in the short-routing section is higher than 45%,the regional rail transit line is suitable for organizing Multi-Routing mode. And the higher the proportion of passenger flow in the short-routing section is,the better the system operation effect is.2)When the passenger flow increases by 30%,the line no longer has the conditions for organizing the mode of Express-Local with Multi-Routing mode without overtaking. Therefore, the Express-Local with Multi-Routing mode with overtaking can better adapt to the increase in passenger flow than that without overtaking.
