With the rapid development of urban rail transit,the system based on the subway is not suitable for the increasing passenger supply any more.In order to develop the service level of urban rail transit system,we need a better urban rail transit system which is multi-layer and multi-mode.Medium carrying-capacity urban rail transit system provides a quite different solution to the congestion especially in cities or districts with low demand scale.Due to the lack of theories and methods of choosing the proper system,some cities didn't choose the appropriate mode which meets the needs and function,that's why the medium carrying-capacity urban rail transit system develops so slowly and a waste of resources.So the study on how to choose the proper medium carrying-capacity urban rail transit system that matches the function,need and service level of the line is quite meaningful.The main research works are as follows.(1)This paper analyzes the development of the Light Rail Transit(LRT)System,Straddle-Type Monorail System,Modern Tram System,and studies the function and significance of the medium carrying-capacity urban rail transit system based on the status of operation for a better understanding and using.(2)Analyze the misunderstanding developments of the medium carrying-capacity urban rail transit and discuss the applicability,developing trend,merit and demerit,technique economy features and the scope of application of medium carrying-capacity urban rail transit system which is divided into five typical categories: Light Rail Transit(LRT)System,Straddle-Type Monorail System,Middle-low Speed Maglev System;Automated Guideway Transit System;Modern Tram System.In order to gain the applicability of medium carrying-capacity urban rail transit System,compare with the mass carrying-capacity urban rail transit system to be the criterion of the next part.(3)This paper conducted the factors which affect the application and technique economy applicability of medium carrying-capacity urban rail transit system by studying on the system capacity,reserve capacity,systematic cost,localization rate of parts and components,etc.The frame on analyzing the applicability of medium carrying-capacity urban rail transit system is discussed through working on the methods of calculation and analysis to structure the multi-factor decision making and profitability mode.(4)The urban rail transit system selection of zone S is studied by the methods proposed in this paper for an example.The research result shows that the methods of the urban rail transit system applicability is proper for the reality of zone S,demonstrating the feasibility of the method.
