Study On The Correlation Between Water Network Topography And Village Spatial Form In Jiangnan Watery Villages

The area south of the Yangtze River is criss-crossed with rivers,rivulets,lakes and ponds.For thousands of years,the region has formed a unique inhabitation pattern where there's a strong connection between the local village forms and the network of rivers.With the villages in the south of the Yangtze River as the research subject and from the perspective of both architecture and geography,this article tries to explore the changes of the connection characteristics between local villages and the network of rivers through the advanced graphics analysis method in recent years from macro-view,medium-view and micro-view—the agglomeration order,boundary shape and inner space of the village.Firstly,In this paper,villages in the south of the Yangtze River were divided into several areal types: river-along,riverside,and lakeside,based on the USGS satellite images around 1970.then 24 typical sample villages were selected out of the 3 types to illustrate the mathematical characteristics of villages with 1.6km*1.6km,and their respective relevance with the water network topography was analyzed.Secondly,comparing the satellite image of 1970 s and 2019 to study the law of changes in the shape,distribution,scale and density of local villages during the fifty years;Thirdly,selecting a medium-sized village from the samples as a representative to compare the aspect ratio and the factual exponent of local villages in fifty years and analyze the law of changes of villages' boundary shapes in different network shapes.Finally,by researching on the density of the building,the fractional dimension of the public space and the hydrophilicity of the 5 typical villages,the author finds out the changes of villages' inner spaces with different networks of rivers.From the research on the changes of the connection between the village shape and the network of rivers,the regional gene of the villages in the south of the Yangtze River can be analyzed,which is helpful in understanding the formation of the villages and its characteristics,providing references for the discussion on the law of change of villages and their future building by combining historical data.
